Hey People,
Trying to track down an emission code on my Jeep.
I have read a few early post and they have been very helpful.
Since owning the Jeep it has always had the P0455 code. Right away replaced the gas cap no change.

Recently I dropped the tank and found the return fuel line was broken and the metal return gas line on the chassis was rusted and pitted.
I have now replaced the entire return line with basic 3/8 fuel hose and replaced the "Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid".
Since doing this I still have the the code (after resetting it) and now I get a decent amount of gas smell when the Jeep has been parked.
Only happens after I start it and pull it out of the garage.

I had my wife cycle the ignition a bunch of times to see if I could see any gas leaking and did not.
I do not have access to a smoke machine yet. And when the gas tank was dropped the fuel filler neck is in good condition no cracks.

*Now some technical stuff from my Cen- Tech scanner:

Purge Monitor - IAC Shift
status Fail

Purge Monitor - RPM Shift
Status Fail

Purge Monitor - Adaptive Fuel Shift
Status Fail

0.040' Leak Detection Pump Period
Test(ms) 506
min 1408
Max ——-
Status Fail

Not sure if any of this helps.

it's filled with charcoal and when it leaks it screws up the purge valve. mine had charcoal in the hose too which if you just replace the valve will contaminate the new one. there are many threads on it here !

When I blew into the canister no charcoal came out and rubber hoses connected to it seemed clean.

I have read almost every P0455 thread on here and a bunch have been helpful. But most of them just end with no answer and people just giving up.

may need to reset your computer. it only performs that test between 3/4 and 1/2 tank and on a cold engine if i remember right.

Yes already done multiple times...and yes that is what I have read also.
Understand I know I have leak I am just at a loss as to where it is coming from and I don't want to throw parts at this unless I am sure that is what it needs.
If it was just the code I would just ignore it. But know the smell of gas is noticeable and I really want to track that down.

I may end up dropping the tank again and check the fuel pump ring and gasket. I can reach in there and I don't feel any gas or smell anything from there. But that is the only other part I worked on when I dropped the tank a month ago.

Soooooo in the end my dad came by to help me track this down.
We were able to verify that when I blew into the return line the F'n gas cap was not sealing.
This whole time I thought I was using the correct Mopar gas cap.

Well quick look on Rockauto I could see the Mopar was way bigger and had a cable to attach it to the cover.
I received the new gas cap and installed it a few days ago.

NO MORE GAS smell and when I blow into the return line absolutely no leaking from the cap.
CEC has not come on since.
I read other thread about the gas cap but just kept assuming I had the right one.

Anyone reading this check the gas cap and get the Mopar while you still can.

X2 to the recommendation for a Mopar. And aftermarket gas caps with a lock in them are more prone to leaks than those without the locks.
