Bestop: Supertop NX or Trektop NX?

I was like @Chris once, hard top or no top. Then in 2014 I got caught in a freak hail storm returning from the Rubicon trail. Had to wait in South Lake Tahoe for over an hour under a gas station pump station to stay out of the hail. After that, I decided I wanted a better solution whilst out and about.

The frameless tops take a bit more time to take off and put back on than a framed top, IMO. Jeep buddy of mine just recently bought the Super top NX in the twill material and loves it. Bunch quieter than the sail cloth.

It didn't seem to be according to the video. it looked like two pins two, levers and 4 buckles was it, but never having one can't argue with you. I just kind of like the idea of taking the windows off and having the safari top, but it does seem like the twill is the be all of tops. Although I am a little worried for the price how it will hold up the the desert heat and the mountainous mud I am planning on getting into. But that said if it gets stained and it is quieter and cooler it still might be worth it.

Call me lucky then I guess. I have yet to get caught in any bad weather without the top off. I read the weather in the morning and if there's even a hint of bad weather in the forecast, I leave the top on.

I'm probably playing the odds, but I'll keep taking my chances. I just couldn't deal with the noise from the soft top, and the way it sort of balloons at anything over 50 mph. It drove me nuts!

The price of the twill is indeed a tough pill to swallow. I don't have that kind of coin, and I'm a cheap bastard, so CL was my option. Picked up a used soft top with frame for $100.

That's fine for a day trip, but if you are wheeling and camping further away, you will definitely be gambling.

Oh yes, these have all been day trips, so that's part of my "luck".

Now if I was going to go camping or wheeling for a while. I'd actually in that case pick up a cheap frameless top. I don't like the look of them, but it would be way easier to put on (and store) than a framed top (I assume at least). So I'd bring one as a preventative measure basically.

Tried the CL and the best I could find here close we a set of door frames. Nothing for the top at all. Not really much TJ stuff on CL here anymore. I could go further out NV, MN, CA, but I am getting used to Amazon doing front door delivery.

LIKE! That is my idea exactly. I may ask Santa for one if it isn't too late. For me if it is going to be that bad of weather I can just keep it in the garage I have a truck and a motorcycle. And I like the easy storage aspect too. You are now in my head!

Haha! It's a good idea. Like I said, I don't care for the look of the frameless tops, but if I found a cheap one (i.e. Smittybilt or something), I would buy it, store it in the trunk, and carry it with me for long trips. That was my issue with the factory soft top. I liked the look of it, but it was a lot more complicated to get on than I liked. Not just that, but when it came to storing the side windows, there wasn't really any place to store them easily in the TJ with two car seats in the back.

Nothing beats the comfort factor of a hard top on long trips. When I drove to Moab(2000 mile round trip) I put the hard top on for the trip and stowed it in the garage of our rental house when we got there. I don't think I could do a 1000 mile drive at 70 mph for 8 hrs. with a soft top.

That was my issue with the factory soft top. When driving 70 mph for 400 miles, it really drove me insane how noisy it was. My hard top on the other hand is so much quieter and comfortable for long drives. Usually when we go somewhere on vacation, we look for a rental house with a garage, and my wife and I take the hard top off together and leave it in the garage. Doesn't work on the trails obviously, but it works if you have a rental house with a garage.

The Supertop Twill price WAS hard to swallow. But it was worth it.

It’s SOOOO much quieter than the black diamond. Granted it’s not as quiet as a hardtop.

My TJ actually came with a hard top, and soft top. I ran the hardtop only in the winter, but ended up selling it.

In the summer, I prefer the soft top. And even though I watch the weather, I still prefer to bring the softop with me when I go topless. Just in case.

Hardtops are great, especially if you have a place to store them. Mine was grey, and the white and grey combo was hideous. I prefer the white and black combo

Now that I have a larger barn, I’d buy a hardtop if I ever ran across one at a good price.

But when it comes to looks, I much prefer the looks of a TJ with a soft top. It’s more jeep-like.
