So my jeep is on 33s. My gearing is 4.88 per my 42rle set up. I’m locked Dana 35 S and D 30 w/chromoly. I’m considering getting a set of mounted 35s for trail use. I would switch my wheels at home before I head to the trails about one hour up the road. My thought is I would be OK on the 4.88 gearing for the slow speed trail use and the short ride to and from. My main reason to want the 35s is to help get the diffs up off the trail. I have 2”+1.25 BL, Flat front fenders and cut rear flares. Thoughts on this idea?

It will drive to the trails just fine.

Alot of folks drive around with the wrong gearing and know no different. Ignorance is bliss.

Will it drive back? Depends on your driving style while on the trails ;)

35’s on beadlocks and aired down may squash that height gained. Beadlocks may not even be needed depending on the trails you want to hit, but just sayin.

Would you set bump for the 35’s? Something to consider to get the performance out of your trail rides.

We’ll I could adjust it when I change to the larger wheels. I would have to come up with the set ups 33 & 35 for quick change. I have a system I made from hockey pucks

I feel like you are going to do that a couple of times and then just stick with the 35s

I think I would doggy with 4.88 and 35s on the street and not sure a regear to 5.13 would change things too much on the street. How do you think it would perform trail wise with the 4.88 on 35s ??? I’m thinking at low speed I would fine? I could see needing bigger front brakes for the downhills - even now with 33s I see the potential benefit.

You need a bigger lift for the 35s. Build around what you will actually use.

I think you’ll be just fine off-road. With the auto it should be easier. Your 1st gear is pretty close to my 2nd gear on the manual 5speed. You don’t have to worry about stalling.

I just meant you’ll do all the work to change, especially the bump stop, and get tired of changing it all out.
