Damn, here we go again!

If you show me or tell me where you want me to do some exact measurements I will do some before and after measurements, but It will be a few weeks before the after.
Ok, got my new numbers. I think the originals were right after the lift, so they hadn’t settled in, plus I got a new front bumper and winch, which nets around 105lbs over the stock bumper.

LF 14 1/4”
LR 10 1/2”
RF 14 1/4”
RR 10 1/2”

So I’m at 2 1/4 up front and 2 1/2” in the rear, thus the 2.5 OME that is so commonly stated is pretty accurate.

Stock springs, not including the coil spring isolator at the top, are 12” in front and 8” in the rear. So measure before the lift and you will see how much sag you have, after will tell you how much lift you net (given a little time for the springs to settle in).

If we’d all measure our springs we’d know the true lift of the H&R and the OME on our rigs. The measurements we took near the LCA frame brackets have too many variables to know true lift. Last time I checked with my hardtop on

LF 14 3/4”
LR 11 3/8”
RF 14 3/4”
RR 11 3/8”

That’s 2 3/4” up front and 3 3/8” in rear. I don’t think I believe that anymore. I’ll get a current measurement.
True that. We can't rely on measurements from frame to ground. Tire size, inflation pressure & etc throws that out. I guess the best we can do is measure from spring perch to isolator. That would at least be the most consistent length we could get to.

I meant exact spots on the Jeep. Just so I know I will be consistent. I think you said the weld line of the lower control bracket on the frame is that correct?

The technically correct place to measure suspension lift is the spring itself, from within the lower perch up to, but not including, the coil spring isolator. I’m sure there could be some slight variation on a factory stock TJ, but the official specs are front 12” and rear 8”, Anything over that is your suspension lift

I think you made a good choice on the shocks, @ac_ , I run the Bilstein’s and while Chris swears by them, I’d like a little smoother ride. Jerry hates teh Bilsteins. To each his own I guess

I think we need to measure the spring lengths, minus the isolators. That way we aren't trying to correct for tires & etc.

Looking forward to my 33’s here pretty soon. Then my measurements from the ground will change and give me more under the frame rail. Not sure my wife was as excited when I mentioned getting 33’s. The look I got was not what I was hoping for. As you probably know from the other thread, I’ve got to make some extra cash in 2018, but I think that will all work out...

It is hard to say for sure. I am not sure what Jerry is running for a lift, but Chris is running the high end Currie, So maybe the spring rates are slightly different and the bilsteins are better not sure, but that is what I read people either love them or hate them, but they all say it is stiffer than the OME. I decided to go OME only because I feel that since ARB sells two different spring rates for light and heavy that they didn't skimp on shock engineering. I am hoping they engineered the springs to work good with the shocks so that is how I finally made my decision.

On a side note: I have Bilstein 5100's and like them. Personal taste, but they work for me and the conditions around here.

No bump stop adjustments were required to run 31x10.50's on Grizzly rims. If / when I go to 32's I'll need a 1" body lift.

This is with 3/4" spacers. This puts me at 2.50" of lift, so my springs have sagged .25" over the years. I have light front/rear bumpers, a 31" spare, and M8000 winch up front. My jeep, with a full tank of fuel, hard top, and my fat ass in the seat weighs in at 3460 lbs.

Again, very true. I do have a variety of rather large hammers and access to a plasma cutter...
I always find my hammer to be the most useful tool for... "fabrication". ;)

WTF, I ordered 0-2 inch JKS quicker disconnects and a 2inch OME lift from Northridge4x4. I used a gift card and they promptly send me my disco's right away, but no information on the lift at all. I just sent them and email to check on it, and they replied and said it was on back order and the soonest they would ship it out was 1-30-18 and they don't think it will even be that soon.

I spent a gift card on it too.

This is the second website I have purchased something where it was on backorder and there was no info indicating that. NOT COOL (Not even shipping info like "Back ordered!!"

I guess I could hit the phone and see if I can find a place that actually has one, and just cancel my order. Might work if they aren't all on National Backorder which I am assuming because quadratrek is nice enough to actually state backorder on their website. That is a nice at least.

There were two lifts I was contemplating the OME 2 or the Currie 4. I have built my Jeep around the 2inch lift. Now I am kind of in a pickle.

Do I wait it out or tell them to shove it, and by the Currie from somewhere else after checking inventory first?

can't really wheel too much till I get the lift (my front fender is less than 2 inches above the tire now.)

need sye kit (was planning this either way so not really a con)
Don't really need 4 inch lift, am not crazy enough off-road anymore (age setting in)
Way more expensive, but super cool

Still need to completely re-do the interior.


4 wheel parts . Con is great at this crap. They are always on back order or shipping take faqing forever.
It it s crap shoot with anyone when it comes to part. However amazon and eBay are pretty consisitant
 
@bobthetj03 Because I learned from the best I am posting a pre lift picture of my Jeep and a picture of my old rear springs with new rear springs. I have been taking measurements along the way and will post them once I am finished. I have the rear done finally, but ran into a snag in the front. I was adding my 10mm spacer on the top and when I removed the bolts for the jounce the threads were messed up on both sides, so I have to go to the hardware store tomorrow and get new bolds. I will probably re-tap the holes also. Nothing like a mandatory stop at midnight.

That rear track bar bracket was a pain in the arse doing it in the Jeep, but I finally got around that, and the top shock mounts weren't very fun either, but other than that was a breeze so far. If all goes well should have the front done tomorrow. Might get a late start tomorrow as me and the lady are probably going to start the day with some Dim Sum. that usually slows down my day, but it's been a while.
