I was thinking about upgrading the rear to disk and doing something to help with stopping. The brakes get warm after awhile.

Then upgrade the front brakes which provide 70-75% of the total braking. The rear brakes are purposely crippled by the brake proportioning valve so even your drums are purposely made to be not able to brake as well as what they're up to. That prevents the rear brakes from locking up which can throw a vehicle out of control. The rear brakes can lock up fairly easily due to weight transfer up & off the rear tires that goes directly to the front tires during hard braking.
If your braking is only marginal with 35's I'd go with the brake pads at www.blackmagicbrakes.com. Just know that proper break-in of the Black Magic pads is critical to them living up to their potential and they have to be kept broken in by occasional very aggressive braking. If your braking is unacceptable with 35's then their Big Brake Kit is the answer. I've been running that kit for close to 20 years on two different TJs and it will stop 35's like there's no tomorrow. In addition to its amazing brake pads, the Big Brake Kit replaces the OE single-piston brake caliper with a dual-piston that allows the entire brake pad surface to stay in contact with the rotor for more braking power.
P.S. BMB includes easy to understand break-in instructions to follow after they're installed. Done properly your brakes will get hot enough during the break-in process that you'll be able to smell them. He sells Centric Premium Rotors too if you need them, though they are included with the Big Brake Kit.
