I fold my windshield down for weeks on end if I can, usually only for a few days at a time. It sucks on the highway. Did it once won’t do it again. Got hit in the face several times with rocks. Safety glasses are a must. (That may or may not be obvious, but legally required and smart)
Frankly it’s super fun pulling the front roll bars off, driving around town. Will do it again this summer. I don’t know if this is common or not to do this but mine doesn’t bounce it stays flat against the windshield bumpers. I remove he front roll bars and leave them off honestly till winter.
Make sure to get side mirrors. I forgot for most of summer and had no problems but I did get a lot of looks from people and sheriffs alike. Side mirrors are cheap.

That's not true. Done it to both my TJs and no leak issue until now.

haven't done anything with the TJ's windshield, but when I was rebuilding the YJ I replaced the hinge pins with stainless steel quick release pins with lanyards... so now I can remove the windshield entirely just by pulling the two pins and disconnecting the plug at the wiper motor..now there's no worries about breaking the windshield when wheeling
also replaced the pins in the hood hinges, so I can pull that too

My CJ5 had split hinges on tailgate, windshield and hood from factory, so cool

If I could get the factory pins out of the tailgate hinges I would replace them with the quick pull pins too, since I'm not running anything on my tailgate anyway, leaving it behind wouldn't bother me
I tried it off road. Although it was kinda "cool" I didn't like how much it cut out visibility of the trail directly in front...
Here in New Mexico, I drove my old M38A1 Military Jeep with the windshield down and the Police were all over me. Said I had to have a motorcycle helmet to do that. Have not tried it since.
Necro thread revival, but having owned motorcycles I'm not sure I'd do this without a full face helmet. I've demolished cicadas with my face shield, and taken some other large insects straight to the chest and neck. I wouldn't want to take a hit like that directly to the face, even with safety glasses.
Well, it's not much different than wearing an open face helmet, which personally I do not. I have a full face and a dirt helmet. With the dirt helmet the cheeks are still exposed. I never realized how much a drop of water can hurt until I was riding in a light drizzle with arms exposed and my dirt helmet letting the drops hit my cheeks. I used to do a lot of trail riding with my googles off until a butterfly hit me in the eye when I was doing 20 mph.
I used to ride a supermoto and a dirt helmet just looked more natural, so I experienced what you're talking about several times.
Then I went to a Harley and had an open face but ended up getting a full face for highway rides and the open face only got used on little 35mph cruises around town.
Yeah I'm not a fan of open faces but they do have that vintage appeal. This reminds of one time I was at the trailhead airing back up for the highway. There's an asphalt section that leads up to the dirt. These 4 old dudes on Harleys showed up with no helmets or gear, just shades and bandanas. We got to talking and I asked them what they were doing there as I never see anyone other than ATVs. They were taking a break to smoke joints and asked if I wanted to join, and then invited me to do wheelies. I had to decline on both accounts, with the rear aired up on asphalt it would just spin. I'm doing a 351 kit soon with smaller 13t sprocket up front. Anyways they made it to 60 years old so they must know something.

My supermoto was a DRZ400. Not a ton of power but the low end torque was awesome and I've always been the type to just tractor around more than blasting through the woods. Like the Jeep 4.0 of bikes. I haven't ridden 2 wheels in 10 years but now that my 8 year old is riding around our property on an electric dirt bike I'm starting to get the itch for something. I don't think I'll ever go back to street riding but another DRZ is attractive because I know them and the aftermarket is huge. I wouldn't hate it if they had at some point just stuck the same motor into a more updated lightweight chassis though...it's not adventure bike heavy but the heft made it difficult at times to keep up with my buddies.

It's just a 2009 KLX250s dual sport, it had only 1000 miles last summer when I got it. Previous owners were older gentleman who knew each other. Now I'm getting close to the 7500 mile mark so need to check the valve clearance. I actually completely forgot about that service interval while I was researching the BIll Blue Big Bore kit. The timing couldn't have been better I'm "already in there" you know...so everything will be done, carbs cleaned maybe new jetting, perhaps an exhaust header to go with my aftermarket exhaust, new chain and sprockets, a 3 gallon tank vs the 2, and a cargo rack with 1 extra gallon, some other little things.
The moment that finally did me in, I was doing 86 indicated which is 81 throttle pinned in 6th. This cute girl was cruising in the farthest left lane, I noticed her while doing a blind spot check. When she sees me passing in middle lane of course she just disappears in some pos grocery getter. Now I'm like I need the 351 right now and I need to transition away from the knobbies I'm using that are only rated for 81 mph. And also get a sports bike. just empty every pocket and continue to make bad decisions
Yea if you feel the DRZ wasn't a lot of power then you would definitely get tired of the KLX. I also feel like street riding can be quite boring once you've experienced the trails. I noticed that I have plateaued on the road, every corner I take would require me to be speeding to make any more improvement, but I still have a lot more to learn on the trail. I'm 5'9 and 140 pounds so an adventure bike for me or really any factory dirt bike bigger than 300cc would be out of the question. They seem to have absurd seat heights.
