Another LED light question

Is anyone running these lights? They get good reviews on Amazon and are not crazy expensive. Not sure if I like the Halos that are on when the lights are on. I am going with these as they look good when off, I do not want the headlights with the Gatlin gun style bulbs in them. I am keeping my TJ pretty stock so not sure about the Halos being on when the lights are on.

Halo's are a hard pass on just about ANY vehicle. Especially one that is two decades old.
I've seen tons of JKs and JLs with halos that change a dozen colors by themselves.

Reminds me of a lava lamp.

Better yet.. when I was a kid my dad made this thing called a light organ. It was a few hundred colored Christmas tree lights behind a frosted glass front panel and the lights would change color with the music that was playing. He was a stoner.
Halos are the same as dad's light organ.

He did get good weed..

If you are spending less than $300 on LEDs, you are most likely wasting your money on crap lights. Go with the Hellas mentioned above or spend the money on the holley retro brights.

Myself and a few others run the Cibie Z-beam housings. They have a sharp low beam cut-off and a far reaching high beam.
Quality, name brand H4 bulbs do these justice. I haven't found a quality, well engineered LED that I am willing to try, mainly because I don't have fuckit money. But, I do stand behind the Cibie housings.

I put these in about 5 years ago. I live in So. TX, so don't worry about the cold too much and I don't drive a lot at night anymore, but these seemed about ten times brighter than the stock lights.

I remember it took me about 10 minutes to take the old lights out and put these in.

I remember it took me about 10 minutes to take the old lights out and put these in.

I have these in my Amazon cart currently. They look close to stock without all the Halos and DRL lights. So they put out good light? How is the cutoff, dont want to be blinding everyone coming at me.

Clicked the link and Amazon asked if I wanted to buy these again... I had these exact lights.. for about two months. They replaced a set of even worse chinesium LEDs and while they were quite bright, the pattern drove me nuts. The underside of overhead trees directly in front of and above the Jeep were getting completely sprayed with light.

Not to mention once I had them installed I hated that they weren't period correct for a twenty something year old vehicle.

I wonder if they have made any changes to them in the past 5 years. Maybe i could install upside down and that would help with the light cutoff? I really like the looks of them, and the black housing, and the price point

Waste of money is a strong term, but probably correct some of the time. The real problem with a lot of led's is inherent. 1 led does not put out enough light, so companies use an array of led's. An array is not point source. Hard to make an effective reflector for a light source that is not point source. My wife has a first year JL. We utterly hated the LED's that came with it. A huge percentage of oncoming traffic will flash their bright lights on it - they think the rediculus amount of spill those lights generate is a high beam.

So I would say some LED's are probably inherently dangerous. Getting a ticket for using a non-DOT approved light is not unheard of. Still, the fist year JL were DOT and still a waste of money.

In all fairness, it is possible to do them well. I have no problems with LED's on another vehicle. Likewise, in all honestly - I have cheap ones on my JL from a previous owner, and while they probably are not the greatest - they work well enough so far I have not felt the need to replace them. My all time favorite lights are some HID's - but they are way too over engineered (they have a mechanical shield that causes a hard low beam cutoff). They cost about $1200 a pair, and I have taken out 2 pair with that vehicle already. (I say I. I think some @%$$%@ took a hammer to one of them - perfect round hole punched through it).

@Chilidawg I put these on almost a year ago and have zero complaints. Plug and play. My stock headlights were worthless. The beam on these seems good, have yet to be flashed by oncoming trafic. Used the thread on here about how to aim them

Getting flashed by oncoming traffic isn't necessarily a great indicator of how good (or bad) headlights are.
