1997 TJ SE restoration

Great restoration. Can you give me any details on your blast cabinet setup? Why glass beads? How did you "clean up" the big parts? What type of paint on the engine, trans, intake? Everything looks really nice.

Good morning,, I bought a cheap sandblast cabinet from Princess auto, in the USA Harbour freight sells the same product. I did some modifications to the cabinet which you can easily find on YouTube. The big change was buying a different gun which solved most of my issues. I like glass over sand as it lasts longer, less dust and reasonably priced.

to clean up the big parts, I first used wax and grease cleaner and then used 3m sanding disks on an angle grinder. Here is an example of what I used and they worked great. Sanding discs

for paint I used VHT for the block and for the valve cover and body I used SprayMax base clear.

VHT Paint

2k epoxy Primer

Spraymax 1k basecoat

2k Clear coat

Any other questions give me a shout, good luck on your project.

Thanks - what gun did you buy? And did you change the syphon tube also? Shop vac hooked up to it?

Had some time to work on my ride and tackled wiring a relay box and harness for the headlight. Turned better than expected.

I purchased a relay box on Amazon along with heavy duty H4 connectors and a rampage headlight kit. I like the aluminum housing with glass lens better the the led lights. It looks morvstock and melts the snow so the light don’t have snow build up.

Very nice job with that relay fuse box. So much better than most 12v electrical mod jobs you see on the internet.

Thanks, I bought several relay harnesses and I just didn’t like them. Many discussions on wiring so I just broke down and did it myself. this also gives me room for additional acces such as more lights or winch.

Did you cut the neck extension off? It changes the tank from a 15 gallon to a 19 gallon tank.
There are threads on how to do it.

Did the rear drums this weekend, considered swapping to disc brakes but got a deal on the drums so went this route and it works for my use.

some before and after picks!

I also finally managed to build my own relay setup and install new headlights. I know everyone has a different view on the type of headlight and I get it. I decided to go with a new glass housing and an H4 bulb for now. Eventually I will try out some oth bulbs but for now I’m pleased with the outcome.

Well got everything running, only to 4 hours to get it started. I had no power to the coil and after diagnosing it I found out that I did not adjust my neutral safety switch on my 30RH. So for those Of you doing a e build with an auto there are a few more things you need to have set to get it running.

My final project this weekend was to rebuild the rear axle and weld in new spring perches. Got the axle out and started cleaning up passenger side.

tomorrow I will weld in the new doorman spring perch and paint up the one side.
