A Story of Indecision and Frivolous Spending

Wow, I'm actually getting close to finishing it! It does actually need a re-gear, even on these 31.7" tires. Hard to believe, but go drive a 42RLE and you'll understand what I mean. The Zj steering isn't necessary, but it's so cheap that I figure why not?

The OME lift is all here and waiting to be installed, I just have to find some time to do it.
I'd sure like to see the photos when the lift is taken off, and the new one installed...

Also, I know it's probably unlikely, but you may notice a bit of better performance with the lower suspension. I have the OME suspension with that size tire, and while I could see how a regear would liven up the powertrain, it's not terribly bad now. I leave the O/D off on the freeway until I hit about 55 mph, then I am good to go. I know most would say 4.56 gears would be a waste of time, but I get the feeling it would be just about right with 31.7" tires and the 42RLE. 4.88 would definitely get you on your way quicker, though, no doubt.

I'll take before and after photos, yes.

I'm hoping for a little better performance with the lower suspension. Right now it feels very lagging off-the-line, which I'm blaming on the gears. When I drive around town I always turn the O/D off (though sometimes I forget), but when I get on the freeway I turn it on (I wish it was off by default).

We'll see how it is after the OME lift install though!

Yes, it does. I'm going to remove that with the new lift, as my old TJ Rubicon with the OME lift didn't need a TC drop.

See, there's a inch of belly clearance you'll gain. So in reality, you'll only be losing 0.5" of belly clearance with the new lift vs. the old lift.

Yep, that's true! Didn't even think about that. I think someone just needs to design a non tummy tuck transfer case that looks more visually appealing than the ugly stock one, that's all!

@Chris, when you get the chance to take that TC drop out and your new lift on, could you measure how much that TC skid sticks down from the frame? What I didn't mention in all of this TT talk, is the Rubi has a bigger TC(NP241). It's fatter and therefore clearance can be even tighter if you were to do a tuck.

Aren't the Rubi skids unique to the Rubicon for just that reason? I think that I remember that they hang down 3/4 - 1" lower than the non-Rubicon skid plates. Something like that, anyway.

Yes, this is true!

That's why I wanted him to take the measurement, so I can compare it to mine.

That extra 1/2" of clearance I have over you would not have helped me here.
