Hitch mounted bike rack?

FYI, we ended up facing the bikes in the same direction and just staggering the mounts. There’s enough adjustability to do it this way too and avoid any handlebars hitting seats, et al. You may be fine, just wanted to let you know

Yeah I tried a couple of different ways, but this had the least amount of touching. The orange bike pedal is hitting the spare tire, but there were no other ways to do it, where it didn't. I think it will be fine. I may wrap a rag around it for the trip, so it doesn't wear a hole in the spare tire cover, but I think it will be OK.

I broke down and bought a GoPro for the trip. I hope I can figure out how to use it for some of our offroad stuff.

I am probably not the best teacher, but I can see what I can do. Mine is really old. I have a Gopro2. Mine doesn't have a screen so you never know what you are getting till you finally get to see it.

I will tell you this since you still have time. Buy extra batteries. They are really cheap and they only go about 20 minutes. Although if you have new fangled ones, they may or may not last as long. I used mine at the track when i was racing my street bikes and one battery wouldn't cut it.

The battery in the GoPro Hero 7 is internal, but you charge via USB, so I’ll be keeping that thing plugged in as much as I can. They say the battery lasts 1.5 hrs. Don’t know for sure yet

That’s disappointing to read, I figured given their target market they’d all have the battery door. The Black does have it, I found out.

I stumbled into a Hero GoPro 7 Black. The battery housing is sealed (for water “proof” ness), but still swappable thankfully. Hoping to record some adventures this year!

Yeah, I saw the black had removable battery. It was also $379 whereas the silver was $199, so I just couldn’t bring myself to pay that much more. I may regret it, but I’m bad at taking the time to video anyway. I hope that changes on this trip!

I doubt you’ll regret it, my wife often comments “we should take a picture” and I decide I’d rather live it and not share it. I can’t think of a single time I regretted not “capturing it” (or the times I gave in and thought the picture was anything like the moment).

Like I said, I fell into mine, but otherwise I’d still be on the refurbished Hero3 I’ve never been unhappy with - enough of everything but not so much I was sad when it was off

Lol, still have the original GoPro Hero. So many cool videos & pics, mostly on the water. I still use it, batteries last maybe an hour. Never even dawned on me that it would be cool for the Jeep too.

I use a Yakima tray style rack for 2 bikes (can get for 4) because it is the best type of rack for my mountain bike and it has an integral locking cable system.

with a stabilizer so it does not rock back and forth.

I also use a locking pin for the extension, other wise, the locking function on the Yakima rack would be pointless because they could steal the whole rack with the bike on it. I don't have a current pic of the set up but if you want one, let me know and I can take one and post it.

This is a silly observation, but I’ve not seen many folks I ride with use the clamp on the rear wheel (only the ratcheting clip). From your experience does that change the effectiveness or is it mostly a preference thing?

On this rack, the clamping bar on the rear wheel is what gives the bike stability. It is also where the locking cable comes out (I don't have it locked in the photo). I much prefer this type of rack for ease of mounting and stability when driving, having used about a dozen different racks over the years.

@ac_ Check out 1up-USA. Best bike racks on the market. The bike rack swivels with the bike on the Jeep and I can open my tailgate with the spare tire . They make many models. You can buy like I did and add an extension for the 2nd bike later. You can also get locks from them that secure the bike very nicely. I really love my setup. Just bought an extension for a 2nd bike.
