Replacing my thermostat right now. My old one seemed to be working perfectly. The only problem is that it’s a 160 thermostat and not a 195 like it’s supposed to be.
Ignorance. For instance, someone realizes that their TJ overheats, so they get the bright idea that putting in a "160° Thermostat" means that the TJ will run 160°F instead of overheating...

Also best way to get a paper gasket off? This thing is a pain the butt. It just keeps coming off in tiny pieces and the parts on the block are like stuck on with super glue.

Razor blade or gasket scraper is what I normally use. And that coolant looks pretty much like everybody else. It's worth doing a flush with thermocure and all that implies, but it's never going to be pristine after 25 years of use.
X2 followed by a small wire brush to insure 100% of the old gasket is gone. The absolute cleanliness of both gasket seating surfaces is critical, the tiniest shard of the old gasket still remaining can cause a big leak.

Thanks y’all, got the thermostat back on everything bolted back and let it warm up to temp, opened just fine at proper temp nothing coming through the housing. Still a little intrigued as to why a 160 was in it tho . Welp now onto figuring out why heat and a/c aren’t working.

as stated before, 100% bubba thought he could make it run cooler. He probably didnt consider that if a 195 made it run at over 210, then maybe it wasn't really controlling the operating temperature after all.

Well, at least you didn’t find a 205* thermostat in your rig like I did (not ideal in AZ)…even worse since the rig also arrived with a failing e-fan. Rig overheated 260*+ at the emissions station on my first drive. Seller said it must have been bc I had the AC on
