Hi All,
Got some weird symptoms on my 99 2.5l 5 speed SE. So it died on me on the way home from the trails. Sandy stuff, no water, nothing extreme. It started sputtering then died. As I was coasting I let out the clutch and was able to get it running for a few more minutes until it gave up completely. Day later, I went out and tried it and it started right up and sounded ok idling in the driveway. When it got warmer probably around 150-160, it died and wouldn't start. So, I started checking CPS, CMS, etc and all checked good.
Here's the weird stuff...
1) As it was sitting there not running with the distributor cap off, key in the on position, it stared arcing through the spark plug wires that were close to the block and the Tachometer would jump up a bit. I put the cap back on and hooked up the wires and then it stared arcing under the cap as well.
2) Later, also not running but key on, I noticed that the fuel pump would cycle on for about 5 seconds and then stop and the engine light would come on. This cycle just repeated until I turned the key off.
I was trying to get codes by holding cycling the key three times, but that didn't show anything, so I tried holding the reset button while turning it on and that checked the gauges, but didn't show any codes.

Fire the parts cannon at it...splurg on a new cap and rotor and maybe a coil (obviously yours works!) I used Accel from Holley. Maybe new plug wires.

Have you pulled your spark plugs and read them?

Seafoam? Clean or inspect the throttle body? Check for vacuum leaks?

A mechanic once told me too much use of seafoam is not good for any engine. True?

Too much of anything isn't good.

Get your Jeep running...idle or fast idle...pull the vacuum line to the brake booster and shove it into a can and let it eat. More RPM or less juice to not let it die.

Sure don't do it every day. Don't eat junk food every day. But do dirt every day... =)
