I'll have to disagree about the 2002 remake of the Time Machine. It was QUITE good, but it was really a different movie in many ways than the original. Neither followed the book particularly well, but the 1960 was a bit better in that regard.

Not a remake but fits with the state of Hollywood.
| Actor Matthew Modine has slammed Amazon Prime after he spotted a major change to the Full Metal Jacket movie poster. The 1987 Stanley Kubrick war comedy is available to rent on the streaming platform, but many people were quick to notice last week that the artwork had been altered. Matthew, 65, was among the disgruntled film fans who took to X, formerly Twitter, to share outrage over the modification. The movie's original poster shows a war helmet with the words 'born to kill' scrawled across it in black ink. But in Amazon Prime's version, it simply had the camouflage headpiece without the iconic slogan. 'Who decided to remove "BORN TO KILL?"' Matthew wrote. 'Not only did they alter a piece of iconic art by Philip Castle, but they completely misunderstood the point of it being there.' The star pointed out that the words on the helmet were vital to the film. '[My character Private J.T. 'Joker' Davis] wears the helmet with "BORN TO KILL" and the peace button as a statement about "the duality of man,"' he added. The movie followed Private Joker as he trains for the Vietnam War, and also starred Adam Baldwin, Vincent D'Onofrio, Lee Ermey, and Dorian Harewood. In one scene, one of his commanding officers asks Private Joker why he has the words on his helmet. 'Wha'’s that supposed to be, some kind of sick joke?' the colonel inquires, to which Private Joker replies, 'No sir.' Private Joker then tells him it's support to mean, 'The duality of man. The Jungian thing, sir.' He is referring to a psychiatrist named Carl Jung, who famously said, 'Every good quality has its bad side, and nothing that is good can come into the world without directly producing a corresponding evil. This is a painful fact.' Many fans of the film were just as angry as Matthew, with one describing the original artwork as 'one of the most iconic movie posters ever.' Someone else said 'one of the best parts of the entire film' was Private Joker 'explaining the helmet to his superior officers.' 'Why on earth would they do this?' asked another angry user. 'Terrible.' 'Here we go again. Hey corporations, stop censoring art,' read a fourth tweet, while a fifth said, 'It is NOT OK to censor history or art.' I'm all for modernized westerns but can't they come up with something new for them?
Do what Fast and the Furious did for the car scene but focus on the guns.

Regarding Full Metal Jacket, that is pretty lame that someone decided it was necessary to change the art. I guess they were afraid that someone would be offended.
A song from the Scorpions played on Spotify yesterday and I told my wife and kids how this original cover was banned back in the 80's because it was too explicit. It was replaced by a picture of the band. I remember being proud to own the original art when my friend had the replacement art. To think this was even controversial back then.

Now it could be 2 naked dudes and acceptable.
I think they retread so many TV and movie scripts because they have too many competing channels looking for content now.
But they should stop remaking classics and upgrade crappy B movies to something better.
Think of how many times Shakespere has been redone. There has to be some other old author or crappy movie from the 20s-50s they could steal from.
Look at the lack of original thought everywhere and then assume Hollywood is dumber and you need to bang some old fat dude to pitch your project. That about covers it. I wouldn't jump into that putrid mess of Harveys and rehash old classics too.

“The plan is to start developing the ideas for the follow up next summer, with a possible release date of 2026 or 2027.

Jeff Cohen, 50, who played Chunk, is now an entertainment lawyer, while Ke Huy Quan, 53, who played Data, won an Oscar in 2023 for Everything Everywhere All At Once after around 30 years away from acting.

Now, hold on there. I thought the True Grit remakes was comparable. I've watched both recently, but nit back to back
I landed in '71 so I'm an Eastwood fan more than John Wayne but I appreciate both True Grit and lean toward the new True Grit. The newer True Grit is more faithful to the book than the original and the cinemaphotography is better IMO
'72 here and Eastwood is one of my favorite actors. I was really into the Dirty Harry movies. Would love to see a reboot of the original.
Just saw a commercial for Gladiator II coming out in November. Had to do a double take. In the commercial someone was riding a giant rhino? Ok then... Like anything else, I'll wait for the reviews first.
I'd also like to see remakes of the first two Terminator movies. Though I showed them to my kids a few years ago and they really like them. We ended up watching all the Terminator series. Even the bad ones.
I saw the Sopranos movie a while back, The Many Saints of Newark. Honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
