Re-assembling my NP231 with a full rebuild & replacement of all seals and bearings, and installing an Advance Adapters SYE kit with it. Everything was going fine until I went to put the cover on. I put anaerobic all along the lip of the main housing, and went to install the cover. While holding the oil pump with the filter line, I dropped the stupid oil pump on the garage floor, and chipped one of the little tabs on the outside of it. I was mad as hell that I had everything ready with the RTV on, and I didn’t feel like scraping it off again just to have to re-seal it later. I ended up installing the case cover sans oil pump, with the line zip tied loosely in place. Believe it or not, it is possible to install the oil pump on the output shaft without needing to drop it down with the filter line installed, which I did after the fact here.
It looks like the tabs go between the cover and the output shaft housing, and serve to prevent the oil pump from rotating in the assembly, and to keep it from falling into the rest of the t-case. Do I need to replace the pump? Or are the other tabs enough to keep it in place?
