We have a 1997 Wrangler Shara TJ and I am told the ECU unit is faulty. When you start the engine it then dies. Apparently there is a problem that it is picking up an immobiliser that does not exist.

I am looking for a replacement unit or is it possible to repair it so that there is no immobiliser ?

ECU number is 351AD, Chassis Number is 1J4FYA9SXVP540364. The ECU unit is currently still on the vehicle

You can try replacing the ECU unit with a USA PCM, which doesn't have an immobilizer. Alternatively, you can try to repair the current ECU unit to bypass the immobilizer. However, this might require programming the immobilizer unit, which can be a complex process. It's also worth noting that the immobilizer unit is located behind the battery, so you'll need to access it to make any repairs or replacements.

Many thanks Henry. Might you have any idea of who in the USA I could make enquiries with?

Thanks Henry, apparently the companies in the USA will not supply me with an ECU un-enabled for the immobiliser as they say it does not match my VIN number, in other words they will only supply me with a replacement, which if course has an immobiliser on it. I am at my wits ends as my vehicle is undrivable and now apparently I cannot source the parts to get it working !

I got a new ecu specific to my 1997 wrangler with exact same problem.Best mechanic in UK John removed immobiliser wire behind clutch. It starts and runs like a dream. It pops and splutters however when tank beyond half empty. Thought fuel pump to blame but looks as if will actually have to replace the ECU. The ECU( PCM) from Mark in Florida cost £750 but only took a week to arrive- specific to identity numbering.
