Car pics too cool not to share

I don't get this at all , I was trilled with cars from about 8 yo. When I started saving all birthday money etc to buy a Camaro SS . Watching the Chevy commercials on Bonanza Sunday night inspired me. I bought my 1st car at 13 , a 51 Chevy DeLuxe , for $100.00 . ( Turns out 100.00 didn't really buy much in the way of a 69 Camaro SS ) . 🧐

My dad had similar hopes and dreams and budget. My grandpa let him drive his "old Ford", a '65 4-door Galaxie (this was in the mid '70s), and told him he could have it until his brother needed it in two years, but he did have to drive his brother to school and work. Both my dad and uncle still remember that car well and have their own stories from it. My dad went from the Galaxie to a white '73 Cutlass , quite the downgrade to me, but he says it was nice for the time. Right after high school they both bought new T/A, and my dads is still here.

I think the Galaxie was actually a pale yellow. There are pictures of it around here somewhere, but don't know where.

Work had me in Mount Airy most of the day yesterday, aka "Mayberry" for you Andy Griffith watchers. I've never noticed these old cop cars running around, but I did yesterday.

I randomly passed Andy Griffiths childhood home. I knew about where it is, but never looked for it. Turns out it's an Airbnb now.

I didn't approach these guys, I wasn't looking for trouble, but they were staying busy. Cars kept coming and going.

I got a shirt from Floyd's barbershop when I was there a long time ago. I don't remember any old police cars either.

I have probably seen an hour or two of the show, it was just an old show to me when I was a kid so nothing that I really watched, but I've always been a Don Knotts fan. That man could make you feel embarrassed for him.

It might be something new. I'm in and out of Mount Airy every few weeks, maybe a moth or so in between, but I typically don't spend much time downtown, which is where these cars were riding around. Seems like a cool niche business, but with a limited and dwindling client pool.

Now you're making me feel OLD.... OK I am OLD so you're making me feel even older.

Yeah, but those things were so soft, they wallowed like that corning at 10mph. :ROFLMAO:

I always thought the sound effects in old movies of tires howling on dirt roads were overblown, then I noticed my grandpas factory restored '55 Studebaker making bias ply tires scream when barely cornering. I know those noises were real now. 15 mph and a gentle, sweeping curve sounded like a track event. Hell, I think those tires even squealed driving across the yard.

Always one of my favorite parts of the older movies & shows... The tech & special effects aren't to todays standards but there's just something about those old shows & movies.

I love that stuff in old movies, as well. However, one thing I can't stand is newer movies that don't put in any effort at all for accuracy with the vehicles. We just watched a 2023 movie called "The Long Game" that starts off set in 1956, and never gets past 1957. Within mere minutes of the movie starting, there's a beautiful black '58 Impala. Shortly thereafter is a '58 Dodge or Desoto (I can't recall which), Later in the movie are two '58 Chevrolet pickups. Seriously? Things like that just annoy the hell out of me. How difficult is it to get the years right? Sheesh!

Not that I know anything about this business but is the availability of these older period correct cars plentiful? Not trying to make excuses for the movie but?

Now hold on, what month does it end in '57? 🤔 Maybe you were watching November of '57 and getting bothered by historical accuracy. ;)
