This is a 'no shitter'-
Actual mainspace fire on USS 1st ship, a BTFN (Boiler Tech Fireman) who was working on his plan to eat his way out of the Navy (fail 3 PRT weigh-ins in a row) was running to the repair locker to dress out to fight the fire.
Youre supposed to jump AND duck.
BTFN just jumped.
That knife edge scalped a 4" wide strip from about an inch above his eyebrows a little better than halfway back.
Thankfully, it also knocked him out cold as he bled all over the place.
Doc numbed him up before he woke up.
Shaved his head like friar Tuck and stitched him up in a giant 'U'.
Yes, his nickname was henceforth and forevermore, Uey-Pronounced as Huey, without the H.

Only been on a few Navy ships when I was a kid and I was short enough that I didn't have to duck...

Closest I can compare is fitting into a M1A2 main battle tank... You don't run in one...

Had more than one soldier who was turning 21 while over there so yes they sold it... Of course after a few bought it none of us who knew what real beer tasted like would drink it...
