Better Exhaust Sound

I love my TJ don’t get me wrong. But the 4.0 sounds like a teenager/young adult, wants to sound deep but ends up with a horrible voice cracks. So what would be the best way to deepen the exhaust sound? I do NOT want it to be loud. Contrary to most young car guys, I think loud exhausts are dumb. I want it to growl when I’m driving. So new exhaust system? Or just modify the current? Not looking to spend a lot of money if possible. What’s the best route?

Stock is the best option in my opinion. I purchased the 3” Banks, Borla, and Gibson. Welded and installed all 3 sounded basically the same. I struggled to notice a difference. Currently still have the Borla Pro XS on but wishing for the nice hush of a stock muffler.
A buddy has the Magnaflow that dumps in front of the axle. It’s substantially noisier than mine and he has already had to replace the sway bar bushing.

I was thinking a bit further up the exhaust than the tip. I’ve got a small leak somewhere from my catalytic converter. And am interested in fixing that while I’m at it. Yeah the Jeep is nice and quiet. Well, on a not very windy day anyway…

Too many differences in opinions. I've tried many and settled with a Flowmaster Delta 40. Deeper than stock with zero annoying drone.

Exhaust is hard to ask people's opinion on. What is loud to one person is considered too quiet to another.

The 4.0 is hard to get a "better" sound out of. I'd start searching on Youtube for different exhaust setups to find a sound you like. Personally I think the best "sound" for a 4.0L is the largest Magnaflow or Flowmaster large case muffler you can fit under there. You still get those classic sounds, but not migraine inducing drone on long drives. An 18" Magnaflow muffler or Flowmaster super 50 are a good match to the 4.0L.

I've had tons of exhausts on past 4.0 Jeeps from the New England winters rotting them off in short order. My current TJ is a summer only vehicle and still has it's factory 1998 muffler, but a replacement Magnaflow high flow cat. It isn't loud, but definitely a bit deeper tone than a typical stock Jeep I've noticed.

That's the answer. For something as subjective as a sound, you really just need to hear it in person. Personally, I don't like chambered mufflers, but obviously Boogie does. A good muffler shop will usually have an idea of which mufflers will achieve the described sound, and most will let you hear it before committing.
