I recently blew up the transmission in my 2001 jeep wrangler 4.0 sport. The jeep has a 4in lift and 35s it also is turboed and is making more power i have the nv3550 and am wondering if i should keep the nv3550 or swap over to the ax15 or a different transmission. not 100% sure What blew it up but im pretty sure it me being 18 and turboing a jeep that i think is bullet proof. just seeing if anyone recommends the swap or just keep the nv3550. i am hoping i can keep the nv3550 because i just got a new short throw shifter for it and it does not fit the ax15

Or consider a 32RH swap. I love my manual but apparently an automatic is where it's at for crawling.

Get an AX-15, sell the NV3550 and the short throw shifter you got for it separately, then get a shifter for the AX-15.

Swap to an AX-15. That's what everyone does eventually. The AX-15 is a much better transmission and much more widely supported in terms of part availability.

And apparently has higher strength gears available in exchange for a pile of cash. @D's Jeep Wrld build thread included a bit of info recently.

I've already cracked one bellhousing...at what point does improved strength of internal gearings get outweighed by a cast aluminum housing?

Especially in light of watching Grind Hard Plumbing explode a bellhousing on a Suzuki Samurai in their latest YT...granted doing stupid shit.

Yeah I've broken a 42rle bell housing,Granted I was doing hoodrat shit 😆 Not cracked but a chunk falling out lol

If I break the bell housing that came with my Novak kit im just gonna go back to an auto and do an 8hp swap.... (I really want a 8hp from the start but there wasn't any adapters at the time,Being a year ago🙄)
Why? Because trans. Brake and being to clutch dump it like a manual 🤙🏼 AND better manners for rock crawling

Edit- Autocorrect corrected my curse word....

what does this gear upgrade do for someone running an unmodified 4.0?

Nothing really and I really wouldnt recommend it,especially if you drive your jeep like a civilized being....That im not😆 im close to stock and my new Ax15 has been through 5 dana 44s in a span of a few months.....on 33s
After my axle swap,my transmission may be the weak point? Again im close to stock,Only work I've done to my engine is a small cam, some light port work on my head&intake and a ARH header

Of course this is reasonable compared to a new 8HP75 .... ;)

Yuuup,Cheapest part is the tranny (i see them go for around 600 bucks or so all day everyday on FBM) The turbolamik TCU is $2400 but it allows for full control 🤙🏼
Trans. Brake,Clutch dumps etc
Edit- Since id like to go with a standalone ecu "MaxxEcu" could be a good solution since it'll take care of my engine and trans.
