So I have been mulling around some ideas and this is just one example of what I am looking at. My new radio will have front and rear camera capabilities so I was thinking Id drill one of these or one similar into the front and rear. Is this a dumb idea or what do yall think? Have any of yall tried this and what are your thoughts?

I had three cameras on the front of my Jeep for a while. two looking in front of each of the two front tires and one watching the winch.

I eventually realized I never used them nor needed them so I removed them.

I don't have any on the Jeeps, but the 360 setup on my tow rig gets used all the time.

Couple notes, make sure you max out the resolution capability of the head unit. The linked one is only 420p.

I'm not real experienced, but I believe a standard backup camera displays the mirror image of what it sees and you need one that does not do that for the front.

This is generally true. However, it can be switched in the settings of (most) aftermarket headunits. At least in every one I've installed. Otherwise, it's usually as simple as snipping a looped wire on the camera harness.

I bought a head unit that came with one camera but has the capability of running two. I set the included camera for the rear and added a camera for the front. The rear camera come up automatically when you select reverse the front camera has to be selected on the unit. I used the supplied tag bracket and added 2 rare earth magnets to the bracket. It sits on the center brace for the body bushing and I have it aimed at the front axle. I do occasionally used it when crawling but it won't replace a good spotter.
