Hidden AM/FM Antenna

Yeah, like how many people are listening to AM/FM these days? It's like CD's, why have a head unit with a CD player? Or worse an 8-track? Keeping features around that we don't use is kinda senseless and they eventually go away on new vehicles.

I got tired of the radio antenna beating on the A pillar area too. It just destroys the paint.

Me I listen to FM radio, and CD's. I hate paying for music.

I still listen to FM talk shows on the way to work in the morning. Still somewhat child appropriate, I drive my youngest to school still. Though there are too many commercials.

I used to listen to Howard Stern. I still have Sirius, but he's hardly ever on now.

I tried a quick search but didn't come up with anything significantly different than the linked option. I was hoping to see a universal solution similar to below.

My family had a 1976 Blazer and I specifically remember the antenna being built into the windshield. It was 2 wires that started at the bottom center of the windshield and went up. At the top of the windshield, they split and ran to each side for a length. I'm not sure if it would have better performance or be about the same.

I remember in a communications class the instructor mentioned those embedded windshield antennas were not optimally designed for FM reception. I had a car with one and I installed a mast antenna and significantly improved the FM reception.

If you wanted GOOD reception I could advise, but if you never use the actual FM, then what is the point of having any antenna at all?

Same here, although I use geek sticks quite a bit, handier than CDs. But most think having two expensive subscriptions to listen to music is the way to go - its all about the PHOOOOOONNE!!!

I will admit to having a satellite radio subscription. Back when XM was floundering and about to go bankrupt (around 2008) they offered lifetime subscriptions for $99. Heh, they didn't know about me and that "lifetime" actually means "lifetime" in my world. For the past 18 years I have used a portable XM radio that I can move between my different vehicles and the house. So far it's cost me 46 cents per month, and that rate is decreasing as time goes by.

I deleted the stock antenna and am waiting on the new hidden antenna to arrive. It should be here today. FWIW, I tried a stubby antenna, which was useless. That will be my baseline. Will report back!
