Genuinely surprised with these newer Cherokees

Back in January my mother ended up smashing a tree with her 2022 Cherokee trail hawk. She was fine, walked away with zero injuries. Her dog was in the car with her also was perfectly fine. When she first told me what happened I told her to be prepared to buy a new vehicle but they fixed it. She told me she picked it up last week. 35k CAD in damages which is crazy but I’m genuinely impressed with how this thing stood up. I still wouldn’t own a modern vehicle for other reasons but we can’t deny the advancements made in automotive engineering over the years.

it’s the whole protect the egg theory we did in high school.

vehicle takes all damage so the occupants suffer the least. and with most everything being compartmented. it’s a lot easier to make repairs.

My wife wrecked her 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was a lot like this accident. Front driver side and wheel area. They totaled it.

I would agree. In a unibody car, you can have a right front hit and have wrinkled sheet metal on the left rear.

The passenger capsule is designed to remain intact and free of intrusion, with parts beyond designed to crumple and peel off the vehicle in order to redirect and dissipate energy. As well, while vehicles have gotten larger externally, internally many feel smaller or at least more "cozy". The idea here is similar to racing with an aim to minimizing body movement, particularly appendages, during an event. Most interior surfaces are softer now and closer to your arms and legs. Add in airbags everywhere and pyrotechnic seatbelt tensioners, it creates quite a safety system. Now if we could learn how to drive as a species, most of this wouldn't be necessary...
