He was born and raised in Johannesburg, but we lost contact after he went back for a short season. They left again apparently it's very hard to get a job as a white in South Africa anymore. (His experience, maybe he just sucks - I have no idea).
No it's very difficult for whites and getting worse. JoBurg makes sense not nearly as many Muslims as the Western Cape but the crime rate is off the charts.
I was at work that morning. Walked into the break room to find a co-worker staring at the TV, which was tuned to CNN.
He told me that a plane had hit the WTC.
"A private plane or airliner? Was it intentional or an accident?" I asked.
He wasn't sure.
But just then, the second plane came in and hit the other tower.
We had our answer.

My wife and I were at work. The kids at daycare.
She worked for the government in a Federal facility that was half military. They went into lockdown, then began clearing out government employee buildings one by one to control a single exit gate.
She got out, picked up the kids and went home.
I had to fly for a project to witness a pump test the first week after air traffic restarted. I got searched at the door, at check in and at the plane every time. I had a one day ticket there and back because I couldn't rent cars or hotels. So that was a little suspicious. There were military patrols with rifles in the LA airport, heavy police presence everywhere.
Not many people in the airports. Sort of like when I flew during Covid.
The US forgot, but they still want us dead.

Did numerous mechanical projects in both towers and had crews unloading for a start up job in tower 1 that morning, Fortunately my guys decided to grab coffee after unloading the truck since the freight elevators were backed up as usual.
One more story. Wife’s uncle was on the 80th floor working for Chase. Came down after the first plane hit, never flew again, ultimately died of leukemia, most likely from all the shit he was covered and breathed in.
