Grind into 2nd gear

I

It's not rubbish man. Lol I've seen it first hand. I have experience with old cars and not changing trannys fluid often. I learned from a 1500.00 rebuild bill. In my second /3rd old van Ive neglected changing trannys fluid but than only changed like 25% at a time. The van I got now is 15 years old. And I'm telling you your gonna be sorry lol. Jerry's got nothing to lose if you do this than your transmission takes a sh! $. But than again I guess it depends how old your jeep is, how many miles etc... but if it dives on you man, you've been warned.

The internet is full of rubbish and I have read a lot of misleading information on the net, so if I am on the fence about a topic and a knowledgable person chimes in, I'll lean on the side such knowledgable person stands on, in this case Jerry.

From my limited experience, the tranny fluid in my 2005 LJ was changed for the first time in 2015, full change, and no issues on my side. My 2006 Audi A4 had its tranny fluid changed for the first time in 2016, full change, all good.

So unless you can disprove Jerry I am on that side. I did Google this topic and only found shady sites talking about this. I do not always side with Jerry either, but on this I am.

To each his own. However my van is 15 years old and my jeep is 20 years old. Just because you had good luck with your 10 year old neglect on transmission fluid vehicles doesn't mean other people with 15/20 year old cars will. It's not shady shit lmao... or questionable websites. It happens man. So we shall agree to disagree.

Since you mentioned an automatic tranny, does the same hold true for a manual tranny?
The answer is even easier for a manual transmission, yes it's always good to change the lube in a manual transmission too. It'll never hurt the transmission to change its lubricant. And in a manual transmission, synthetic is always a good idea. Just make sure to use either a GL-4 like Redline MT-90 or Redline MTL, or if you can't find a GL-4 or need it that day, make sure the GL-5 gear lube you buy says it's safe for yellow metals. Which means it won't harm the gear synchronizers which are made from yellow metals like brass. If the GL-5 is safe for yellow metals, there will be a note on the back label saying it is.

Incidentally, the info at the following webpage gives a better explanation of my feelings on changing ATF in an automatic transmission than I can easily explain... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.co...ission-service-ruin-my-cars-transmission/amp/

Great read and analogy within the article.

It’s like exercise: You know that exercise is a great way to help your body stay in shape, and it’s something you should do regularly. But if you’re having a heart attack, you don’t start doing jumping jacks — it’s a little late for that!
