I don't know if i should make a new thread or not...
I have a 98 wrangler sahara and the air tries to blow out of the vents when I switch it from defrost. The air whistles trying to get out but the vent doesn't open on the inside behind the dash to let the air out. I read a few threads and can't seem to find my issue.
Any help is appreciated.

The problem is almost certainly either a stuck blend door or a vacuum leak somewhere in the system.

See this thread for more details: Air won't come out of vents? Read this!

Thank you. I'm new and must have messed up the search I tried doing. If it blows out of the defrost at the right speeds would the blend door be the more likely problem? I'm not mechanically savvy. I appreciate your help.

If you aren't mechanically savvy, this may be one of those things you want to take it to a shop for.

It's hard to say for sure honestly. The blend door can get stuck as a result of leaks in the vacuum system, and it can also get stuck as a result of a jam or a bad actuator. In most cases, it seems to be vacuum related however.

Not sure if this is the right place to do this but having the same defrost problem. I have vacuum up to the control valve inside, but no matter where I put the control heat or AC only blows out the defrost.

And you’ve made certain there are no vacuum leaks or anything? If so, it’s very possible the control panel for the switches themselves is bad. I’ve seen it happen before.

I have the same vacuum inside as I do at the manifold

I had this very problem in my ‘02 TJ.
I found a vacuum hose had come loose.
I googled a diagram of the vacuum hose locations to find the loose one.
I am far from a mechanic but was very happy to get my AC blowing through the vents again.

Thx for all the previous posts!! Defrost air n my 04 LJ plagued me all winter; after reading these posts found the cracked hose and repaired it with a weed-eater fuel line in 5 min!

FYI, for anyone having trouble finding out repairing the leak I bought this full factory replacement for $20 shipped. Simple 5 minutes plug and play.
