TJ won't start: Could it be my fuel pump?

If you are going through the trouble of dropping the tank to fix the sender. Might as well replace the hole thing.

I know everyone is die hard OEM people. With the problems with the inaccurate sending units it makes me wonder if someone has made a better fuel pump. Especially since Bosch is no longer producing the TJ pump. i know that there are Bosch replacements available).

Fortunately Bosch still makes them for the 05-06 models

One thing I noticed about that sending unit, it's listed as only fitting 05-06 models, so that seems to suggest that it may not be spot welded like the earlier models.

Either way, replacing the entire fuel pump and keeping the existing one for a spare may just be the better option.

Chris the sending unit is a separate part 5161336AA (listed as "LEVEL UNIT KIT, FUEL" in section 014-510 if the 2005 parts list). The link I posted above is correct. #19 in pic below.

You can check your valve where the fill tube goes on the tank and sand the little groves down so you don't have it sticking in the future. I need to do it on mine too.

What does that have to do with my fuel level sensor being inaccurate?

Maybe I am missing something. I don’t have any issues filling the tank.

Nothing. But if you have to replace the pump, while you’re in there you could do that to prevent the problems on fuel splash back or slow fill ups in the future caused from the valve sticking. Seems like it would be the time to do it since you’d have the tank off and pump assembly out. Kind of preventative maintenance, I guess.

Mine is stuck open and I get the splash back if I’m not careful. One day I’ll get the tank down and fix it like in the videos. Will probably change the pump while I’m at it.

The sending unit is replaceable on the 05-06 but you have to be able to pull the wires from the connector. At ~$146 shipped for a new assembly, I'd just replace the whole thing.

Seems like it would be the time to do it since you’d have the tank off and pump assembly out.

If he has a GenRight tank I don't think he has that valve anymore.

I forgot that he mentioned having the GenRight tank installed.
