What did you do to your TJ today?

I need to do mine too. Was it difficult getting to it and which replacement sub are looking at putting in?

it wasn't difficult at all for me. I believe there were 2 Philips under the arm rest, 2 torx under the cup holders for the rear passengers, and 1 or 2 either Philips or torx under the front cup holders. then you sort of finagle/shimmy/wiggle it away from the front portion with the gear and trans levers

I guess the only difficult thing was trying to figure out how the connection disconnected. every time I come across one, in any car, I wonder if im going to snap a tab trying to disconnect them. and I never really know if a separate locking slide is present. very small flat head screw drivers help, like glasses repair kit size

then once the console is off there are a couple one-way sort of spikey caps holding the speaker and amp assembly to the console housing, which I destroyed whilst removing. I have tons of fasteners and such in my garage so I should be able to fasten it back together somehow. It attaches via 2 plastic nubs so I could either run a screw with some thick spacer washers or thread the outside and run a nut down on it. sorry I don't have any pics right now, maybe i'll snap some when I get home tonight

as for the sub speaker itself, I shied away from the $90 replacement from quadratec after reading the reviews, and I wasn't about to pay OEM dealer prices if it's even still available. I found one on amazon that ppl have been using but have had to do some custom cutting and whatnot, about $17

im not looking for the greatest audio ever, but I do need a little bass back. I really don't plan on doing anything special with the sound system, I don't even want a different head unit. at some point i'll dig deep in my basement junk pile and find all the cds I used to have from the late 90's so I can at least listen to something without static or commercials.

Thanks for the details. I was looking at the quadratech sub but haven’t decided yet. Waiting for the weather to break here before I worry about it. Same here though, I’m not looking to go hog wild on the sound system, just get it back to the stock sound at least. Right now I have no bass whatsoever and the remainder of the speakers work when they want to. I get sound out of anywhere from 1-3 speakers at a time, never all 4 at the same time. [emoji2357]

I did the quadratech sub, and am happy with the results. Install was easy. I wanted a sub in the OEM location. My only comparison is to a worn out OEM sub.

My system is an old Kenwood head unit i had in my garage, the quadratec sub, using the OEM amp, plus a Sound Ordnance M75-4 amp with some Kicker dash and pod speakers. I think my system sounds great.

What was the installation process like for this? Plug and play as far as hooking up, any issues making it fit?

I should have taken pictures but the woofer I bought is deeper than the factory speaker. The removal process for the console and factory speaker has been covered I believe. Once it was all out I used my dremel with a cut off wheel to cut some of the structure out of the sub enclosure. Realistically took me longer to find the tool than do the cutting. No one will ever see it so I hacked it up. Plugged the factory wires onto the speaker. They were a little loose so I zip tied them on so they would not fall off. Once the speaker fit in the housing I fastened it with original hardware to new holes (again no one will ever see it) and put it all back together. As someone has already said, the hardest part was disconnecting the plug under the rear part of the console that powers the sub and amp. Very short tether and hard to see what I was doing.

Built this platform for the cargo area so my pup doesn't scratch up the sheet metal. Also I wanted it to go to the back of the center console.

Over the last 3 days.....

rear pinion seal
rear axle bearings
rear axle seals
rear shoes
rear drums
front pads
front rotors
longer rear wheel studs

I love working brakes. To be more precise, I love brakes that work well.

Washed and waxed and then started installing my new EAG pocket style flares.. not real happy with the fit on the front. The two holes at the rear on both sides do not line up with factory holes...

Installed my new rear Adam’s driveshaft. Determined my pinion angle is 15 def and the DS is 21deg. So much for the recommended settings on the adj control arms.

Got my control arms out. I knew the rear driver lower was a little tweaked, but didn't realize for sure the mount was until I got it out.[emoji849]

An amusing day, before I continue doing things I wanted to try and get rid of some of this (Michigan) rust...yea I said it! Tried Evaporust and it’s not bad. Looks a little suspicious, like it could be made at home. 😁 Really bad at remembering to take ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics but here’s an after. Trust me, it was worse. Didn’t do Track Bar as it’s replaced as of tomorrow.
