On the road.
"Twas the week 'for Christmas
And all through the Jeep
The gizmos were failing
The jeep was a heap

The Radiator was leaking
The bearings made noise
The Power Steering pressure sensor
Blew fluid, what Jive!

So, the new ECM is great! Engine runs better than ever, and consumes less fuel than it ever has. Must have new programming or something with updated mappings.

But now the upper radiator tank started leaking. Not much, but enough to warrant a new radiator. Crap. I think the TJ is jealous of the shiny new(er) JK parked next to it. Just bad Jeep Karma. Off to the parts store to figure something out to keep the little TJ on the road until after the first of the year.

Ahhh, if it isn't one thing it's another.

My Christmas season has been full of things going wrong with the house (convenient timing, right?) that have me spending way more than I'd like to around this time!

I know how ya both feel. Tranny still messing up, leaning to PCM, Gas pac just went out and had to replace that.
StG58, where did ya get ECM? New, rebuilt or what?

You have my empathy, Chris. The Christmas Season is supposed to be about...well, you know. But we seem to get bogged down with a plethora of extraneous bullshit things that try and detract from the spirit of the season. It's hard to not get cranky about it.

But, Merry Christmas!

@Chris came up with a pretty good trouble shooting guide for my issues, and I assume that it was from the Factory Service Manual (FSM). Pretty much nailed down that my issue was the ECM / PCM. The other Frank (@Stinger) had some good tips as well. Both were correct and pretty much nailed the issue down to the ECM.

I purchased my ECM / PCM from http://jeeppcmdirect.com/index.php which is a subsidiary of https://www.automodulesource.com/index.php

Cost me $499, but it was supposed to be a total re-manufacture of the PCM, re-solder, component replace / update and fresh factory flash as available. Most of the issues with Jeep control modules stems from the solder joints going bad. Apparently this is a pretty common occurrence with Jeep. Motorola built the originals, and the engineering on the soldering just wasn't quit up to snuff for the long haul. The unit I received was well done. Refinished black and well sealed. Ordered on a Sunday afternoon and received it on a Wednesday afternoon. They flashed it with my serial number and mileage so it was totally plug and play. Pay attention to the four line installation instructions though. One part is counter intuitive. This is the place where the local Jeep Dealership sends their ECM / PCMs to get rebuilt. The manager of the parts department tipped me in on that when I was buying slush mats for the wife's JK.

Oh, and my little SE isn't really a heap, I was just feeling snarky.

Dang it!!!!!!!! Mine is $1199.00 being a 2005 X. Wanna trade???? LOL But thanks

You're welcome. Nope, my 1999 SE is perfect for what I do, and I'm usually very happy with it. It's just being a pain in the ass right now.

Wow, for that price, I'd check the dealership to see what they could do. $1200? Ouch!
