HVAC is making a loud rumbling noise

Whether it’s A/C or Heater, when I turn it on it’s making a loud, low sounding rumbling noise? Wondering if anyone knows the solution if they had it before. I have 2006 X Sport Wrangler

Does the noise change with the fan speed? If so pull out the fan motor/blower and give it a spin and see if the bearings make any noise. It's super easy to remove in the late TJs. Just crouch under the glovebox, lift one release tab, and twist

I wish I could answer that but that’s another problem I have to address. My fan speed is stuck on high. So I have to fix that. But I will give that a shot and see how that works. Thanks!

That’s good to know. Thank you. I was thinking it was something to do with the wires or if I had to replace the whole fan switch.

Clean out your cowl. You could have a bunch of debris trapped in there. Your fan could also be going bad as well.

Hopefully you just have some leaves or maybe a mouse nest in the blower motor. Just keep your fingers crossed there's no actual mouse stuck in there

Fan speed is likely the blower motor resistor. But I'll bet the fan is probably going bad as well. As the motor goes bad, the current goes up which shortens the life of the resistor

In my 2001 TJ, the noise gets louder as I turn up fan. We are not just talking ticking but a severe loud rumble.

Is the process the same to check the blower? Easy?
