Could squeal on start-up be from A/C compressor?

My 2000 wrangler 2.5 squeals bad while cracking up. It then goes away. I know the bearing in the compressor needs to be changed because it does the same squeal when the compressor is on. Could the squeal from the start up be the compressor to even though I don't have the ac on during start?

Yes, it certainly could be the reason for that equal on start-up.

Have you checked belt tension?

Mine does it too, I need to tighten the serpentine belt

Yup that's the serpentine belt. Time to get the 15mm socket, extension and a universal and take up the slack.

You may have to adjust till the squeak goes away. Mine still will squeak for a split second upon starting but I'd rather have it a tad bit loose than too tight.

If your bearing really is going bad, my advice is to get it taken care of right away.

Mine failed 150 miles from home at the end of a 2000 mile trip. Snapped the serpentine belt, stranding us in Smalltown Texas Panhandle late on a Saturday, and blew up the compressor in the process. This trashed the entire A/C system and everything had to be replaced.
