Replacing drivers side axle

Front or rear?
I’ve haven’t looked in a long time but up front I run RCV’s , there super strong, a bit pricey but IMO worth it, out back I think I’m running Alloy USA, I think some are made in China now but can’t remember for sure, the ones I have are US made, that used to be an option and a price hike but not sure about now.

Revolution makes alloy axle shafts that are made in the USA.

I have a feeling my mechanic will ask how many miles on them. Local! Wow. I can shoot you a PM tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.
52k miles. Shafts and bearings are fine; I swapped them with 4140 Revolution shafts for 35" tires. Might be worth pressing on new bearings if you plan to use them a long time

Wonder if '06 is the same as an '04? I have a feeling they are good to go. I'll shoot you a PM tomorrow if that is cool. Thanks for the reply.

06 is the same as 04. If that doesn't work out Revolution Gear & Axle is the only manufacturer of USA (Los Angeles) made shafts for Wranglers I'm aware of. Best source for RGA is Ricky at www.4lowparts.com

@Jerry Bransford @mrblaine , Sorry to bother either of you, but I want to make sure the rear Dana 44 axle on my '04 Rubicon, the passenger side is the long side and the driver's side is the short side? Correct? I could pull my axle out and compare the used one to it for reference I guess, but thought I should be sure of what I am doing. Thanks for any of your time.

Dana 44, matches the front. Dana 35 is opposite.

I wish I remembered which one was which. Only about a half inch difference, but long enough to not be interchangeable

Just needing the driver's side, so I believe that is the shorter one of the two on my Dana 44. Thanks. I guess I could pull mine and drive my other car to pick it up.
Dana 44, short side is the left side, long side is the right side, or put another way again, matches the front.

Okay, I think I get it as the front pumpkin is offset enough to the eye and they match to the rear. Sorry for my ignorance.
If you can't tell the difference between the long side and the short side on the front axle given that one is over twice as long as the other, not much more I can do for you.

In all honesty, I understand what you're saying, but it reads a little confusing to some and I could see why. Yes, the front is very obvious as to which side is shorter, but the rear isn't obvious like the front. I assume you're saying the slight longer shaft does onto the passenger side and the shorter on the drivers side, same as the front, except the difference is much smaller. "Matches the front", while true as far as shorter vs longer, seems to be the potentially confusing part.

So in other words, the front is obvious as to which is shorter or longer, so just do the same in the back, use the shorter axle on the drivers side.

The only way "matches the front" is potentially confusing is if I somehow magically landed on a communication method whereby I am the only person who understands and knows English as my first language.

There is zero potential for confusion since the disparity in length is blatantly obvious on the front axle. If it isn't, find another vehicle to work on.

That and stop using passenger and driver sides. What if it is a right hand drive mail Jeep? Right side, left side. Do you want me to also explain how to tell which is which?

I think when you said "matches the front" made him think exactly matches the front, even though I personally understood what you meant, I could see it confusing some, since it doesn't actually match the front other than shorter vs longer.

I know you enjoy talking condescendingly to people, many times warranted, but I don't appreciate it, as I'm not an idiot. And NO ONE is talking about mail Jeeps, and you know it.
