Does anyone know where I can purchase a new Mopar camshaft position sensor for my 06 LJ? It looks as if the previous owner had the sensor replaced with an aftermarket one and I would like to put the original sensor back on the new Crown OPDA I am installing. I'm searching for part number 5149034AA as my local dealer (who does not have the part) has confirmed to be correct for for my Jeep. A couple of online dealers are saying the item is discontinued and one even cancelled my order. Thoughts?

The Mopar sites all seem to be linked together; probably back to Mopar, and they are all saying the CPS is no longer available. I phoned on of the sites and the sales person indicated he could see inventory at a dealership near him in South Chicago but did not give up the name or number for the dealership. I'll do some calling around tomorrow.

I purchased Mopar 5149034AA from https://www.moparamerica.com/ on 8/31/2017. It's in the trunk of my LJ and I'm not even sure if I ever opened the box. I keep it as a spare because I've had the Dorman and Crown sensor fails but I don't have much faith that this new Mopar sensor will work any better. It's been reported for some time that the Mopar Camshaft Position Sensor is not the same as the OE sensor installed at the factory.

If you need a Camshaft Position Sensor, I'm not aware of any that have been proven to last as long as the OE sensor. I was checking on availability the other day though and found that there is now an NTK sensor. Considering how well their 02 sensors work with our TJs, this may be a good option. It's been my experience that all of the aftermarket sensors will work, but none work long-term. Best to always have a spare.

When I replaced the original OPDA, I initially went with Dorman. I used the Dorman sensor but the OPDA itself began making a knocking noise after 15 months/35,000 miles. I replaced that OPDA with the Crown unit but continued to use the Dorman sensor since it seemed to work. That Dorman sensor failed about 3 months later (P0344 and limp mode). I then replaced the Dorman sensor with the Crown sensor. That Crown sensor only lasted a couple of months before it set P0344 as well as a crank/no start condition. I then installed my original Mopar sensor and have not had any further issues. That was about 3 years/60,000 miles ago.

Damn... get ready for it guys. It's not long here until all the OE Mopar parts are gone, and then we are at the mercy of the Chinese 100%. Let's hope someone can eventually find an aftermarket supplier who makes replacement sensors that actually work with these TJs!

I swapped the Crown sensor that came with my OPDA with a NTK a couple weeks ago and instantly threw a CEL. The Crown sensor went back in and it never had an issue until today, coincidentally.

Today I got the P0016 and P0339 codes along with limp mode, and I swapped a NTK crankshaft position sensor for another NTK and the problem seems to have gone away. I may throw the OEM crankshaft position sensor back in for now.

My recommendation:
The Crown assembly includes the camshaft position sensor, which has given me no trouble. If it works for you, run it. Keep the OE sensor on hand as a spare.

I wonder if these companies know they are making defective replacement sensors that don't work? I mean really...

So the trick to finding an OE CPS is to get someone in a Jeep dealers parts department to look at their data base and tell you what other dealers are showing inventory on this part (Ref 5149034AA for 05-06 TJ's). You can have your local dealer order it for you or you can contact the stocking dealer directly and have it shipped to you if they are willing to do so. I ordered mine from John Elway CDJR in Colorado and will use it as a backup if/when the new sensor on the new Crown OPDA throws a code.

I know a guy that works at a Jeep dealership and on a whim I emailed him about a CPS for my LJ. He put in the part number and pops up 6 dealerships from east coast (Georgia, New Jersey, PA and Tenn). I called and emailed the dealerships and the New Jersey salesperson called with one in his hand. I bought and being shipped.

I went to the local dealership and gave them the part numbers for both the CAM and CPS sensors. They had them shipped from another dealer and I picked them up the next day. They're still around, but you might have to call around a bit.

I swapped in the the Crown ODPA. It does not seem to like any sensors other than the Crown one. Have tried the new Mopar sensor, as well as the NGK. They both instantly throw P0344 codes. The Crown one will actually randomly throw a code every now and then. I have a code scanner, and if I turn off the Jeep and clear the code, it will then be fine. But it does come back on randomly. Maybe be a couple weeks, may be the next day. Just seems odd to me.

Jeep runs perfectly fine with code on or with code off. Only difference is that with the code on, it is in limp mode and won't rev above 2500 rpm.

I get the same code on occasion but I dont have any problems with limp or anything. I thats why I am getting the Mopar camshaft sensor, hoping I will no longer get that code.

I wonder if throwing my orginal senor back on would fix my problem. I just had my ODPA replaced a few days ago because it was making a terrible noise. The shop replaced it with one that came with a senor, I'm assuming they used a Crown ODPA. The moment I got home from the shop the check engine came on with the P0016 code. I reset the code, it came back on right away. Now I'm noticing a few weird things, my temp gauge jumps to 210 way quicker than normal and my cruise control will turn of after 2 minutes of starting and won't turn back on. Hopefully the cruise control shutting off is due to the check engine light being on

If you can grab your original OEM sensor that would be ideal. Even if it does not work in the crown unit, I am sure someone here would be willing to give you money for it.

For my 5.2 swap, I was able to find 1 remaining on rock auto's website, for a genuine mopar CKP. Might want to try them, just type in the part number in the part number search.
