Just curious what brands and material rating shafts you guys are using and what the results have been!
Who thought that was a good idea?I am using RG&A shafts in my Dana 30. They are 4340 and use a 1350 ujoint. They also require the unit bearing bolts to be modified by shaving material so the ujoint can fit inside.

I assisted in the development of them. They are a good idea.I'll take the bait. Do believe the larger ujoints are not a good idea? If so, can you please share your knowledge on this topic?
I have a vested interest since I'm literally in the middle of doing a similar install on my Dana 44.
Just curious why you dont know what brand S35 you bought?Dana 30/super 35. I got my super 35 and have no idea what brand or rating they are, gonna run them but wanted more knowledge on the subject. I saw the post about the 1541h being hardened for the bearings also.

Nah, that's not risky. I need to introduce you to my new friends the Garage Couple.Hmmm. Sounds risky.

. . . I run Carbon Offroad 4340 axles in my Dana 30/Dana 44
There is no more Foote Axle and Forge. They were acquired by Spencer. Supposedly the same products produced domestically are going to be available but that is not fully known yet.I, too, run Carbon Offroad chromoly axle shafts in my Rubicon Dana 44 rear axle.
In the front I elected to go with Yukon chromoly axle shafts rather than Carbon Offroad, but only because I was installing a Yukon manual hub conversion and Vanco Big Brake Kit at the same time and wanted to minimize the number of mfrs/vendors involved in the event of any future issues (so far none), and also because I got a screaming hot deal on the Yukon axle shafts by purchasing at the same time as the Yukon hub kit.
As you do your research, I think you will discover that except for the domestic axle shafts manufactured by the Foote foundry in L.A. and marketed by Revolution Gear & Axle, all of the imported chromoly axle shafts come from the same handful of foundries in India. The primary difference between brands of imported chromoly axle shafts for Jeep TJ's is customer service and warranty by the importer and the installer.
As far as customer service and warranty are concerned I cannot say enough good things about Ron Stobaugh at Carbon Offroad. He has always been a straight shooter and has treated me well as a customer.
