Will a 6 cylinder from a 2004 Liberty swap into my 2004 TJ?

I have a 2004 tj. It has a 4 cylinder. If I pick up a 2004 liberty with a 6 cylinder in it what would I need to swap them out? Would it be all the same wiring? I would think the motor and transmission would bolt right up. I’ll have the entire donor vehicle.

No, it won’t even come close to being an easy swap. That is probably one of the worst ideas for a swap out there. The 6 cylinder in the Liberty is NOT worth swapping in.

If you want a 6 cylinder, do the smart thing and sell your TJ and buy one with a 6 cylinder already in it.

It’s the wife’s and she won’t sell it. It’s a pos that won’t do 65. Just trying to get it to go at least the speed limit.

Just to follow on what @Chris said.
Your TJ has a 2.4ltr inline 4 cylinder engine in it while the Liberty has a 3.7ltr V-6 engine. They are 2 totally different engines and the wiring would not come even close to being the same.

Yep, that’s the 4 cylinder TJs in a nutshell. You can re-gear them, but even then, they are terrible highway vehicles and severely underpowered.

If you are going to keep it, the easier swap would be the 4.0 6 cylinder out of another TJ.

What transmission does it have? Yes people have turbo'd the 4 cylinder. It has been discussed a lot with the 2.4 because it was the same/similar engine used in the PT Cruiser. I remember a few guys who bought parts from the PT C with a turbo but don't know that I ever saw anyone actually do it.

If it was a diesel Liberty that would be hard too, but people would be more encouraging out of curiosity.

It is a swap that has been done either using the CRD from the GC or the Liberty.

I’m not sure what transmission it has except it’s automatic and has the overdrive switch on the dash

42RE then and its not worth it to swap in anything unless you plan on going 4.0L I6 with a matching 42RE so wiring and linkages would be easier.

This is the OTHER reason it is such a "DOG" on the road. The 4cyl TJ should never have been offered with a automatic.

Either convince the wife to trade it for a TJ with a 6cyl or do a V-8 (Hemi or LS) swap into it. Just know that if you go the V-8 swap route you'll be chasing the rabbit hole becasue next you'll need a stronger rear axle and so it goes.

That’s the plan if I can find something that’ll work. Just swap all over.

Right I’m trying to be cheap haha that’s why I was thinking the liberty but wasn’t thinking it was a v6
