LED Flasher Relay

Ok folks. I purchased the LED flasher relay from Amazon per @Jerry Bransford recommendation in a previous post. The OE relay has 5 prongs and the new low voltage LED relay only had 4. I plugged it in and checked turn signals, hazards, tail lights, brake lights and marker lights and they all seem to function fine.

That said anyone know what the 5th center pole would be used for in the OE flasher that the aftermarket LED version does not have?

just want to be sure I’m not burning something else up in the process without asking or understanding.

The additional terminal may be for the power wire that wraps around the bi metallic strip for the blinking function.

Haven’t tried with the ignition off...I’ll try that.

I thought I remembered reading that was the only issue people had when going from the 5 to 4, was that function wouldn’t work at times. I have a Novita LM470 5 pin relay for my LEDs and have no issues. I can’t recall exactly what the 5th prong is for, sorry.

They are cheap so I’ll order the one you listed and have peace of mind. Thanks!

If anyone was curious there is a difference between the 4 pole and 5 pole flasher relay. The 5 pole center terminal is linked to SKIM, the 4 pole in a SKIM equipped rig will have all sorts of intermittent starting issues. Don’t ask how I know after a drive into the woods today.

Interesting. I suppose I’m thankful I’m running the 5 pole!
