Where did you mount your extinguisher?

I agree and I am not knocking the element. I'm just saying I am unsold at this point. Doesn't matter how long it runs if it doesn't do much putting out of fire while it's going. I'm not saying it doesn't, but that video made it look like you needed to get real close to a very small fire to be effective. One good blast with a typical abc from 5 feet back would put out most things under a hood you should be messing with anyways. I am curious to see more videos of it in action and would prefer somebody have that over nothing at all.

Does it worry anyone else how close you have to get to the fire with that for it to work?

Not really, mainly because you should NEVER open the hood like the car in that video. That's about one of the dumbest things you could do if you start seeing thick smoke or even flames coming out because you'll just feed the fire a lot more oxygen and it will take off. This should also be a good reminder that it's not just about carrying a fire extinguisher, you should also learn how to use it properly and have a plan. Easy, quick access is critical, don't stick it on a roll bar mount at the back because you want that sucker in your hands as quickly as possible when every second counts.

As usual on this forum, LOTS of good advice! I plan on mounting my newly acquired 5lb ABC in front of the drivers seat.

One thing I find ridiculous though is "access" to the fire department as in Boonies vs anywhere else. What difference does it make if your 100 miles from a fire station or 5 miles? Either way, if you don't have a fire extinguisher your vehicle is gone by the time the fire truck pulls out of the station. How many remnants of car fires on the side of the road are anything but burnt out hulks?

There’s a bracket (?) that indexes on the mount, I don’t think I can change the way it’s clocked relative to the hose.
Thank you for the advice, I’ll look for a solution
Maybe the extinguisher can't be rotated with your mount but it's easily done with the mount I used as shown in posts 5 & 7 above. .

Please show where you've mounted fire extinguishers, any tips? Thanks

One Of my reason for mounting the element50 on the driver side top roll Bar on our LJ :
A Buddy of mine was hanging in the driver side seat belt upside down after he rolled his pickup and figured that he never could have reached a fire extinguisher that’s mounted close to the floor while his 385 # body was hanging there, wrestling to undo the seat belt
Please,Not for argument sakes, just MHO

Doesn't sound very restricted to me. Unless you are imagining hanging upsidedown in your harness and fighting the flames around you because your buckle is stuck. I think I saw that in a movie one time.

I actually grabbed the extinguisher from under the passenger seat of my Oldsmoboat this morning driving somewhere. Smoke started bellowing from under the hood as I was driving. I pulled over in a hurry, pulled the hood release, grabbed the extinguisher, then lept out out to do battle. I immediately smelled it was coolant steam not smoke and was very relieved.

Your own link says ahead and crack the hood to use the extinguisher if you see smoke and no flames.

A fire extinguisher that is only accessible from the back doesn't sound restrictive to you when there's a blazing fire you need to attend to? Oh well.

Behind your own seat? A little, yes. I'm just saying in the case of anything other than fire inside the cab, it wouldn't slow most anybody down enough to matter. Somebody else's rig, my rig under the hood, brush fires--that's what I foresee them being used for. In those instances, behind the driver's seat is just fine for me. But fire in the cab? Sure, I'll give you that, but if that's the case you are likely well past being able to do anything meaningful with a personal fire extinguisher. I really think just carrying one somewhere in your rig is 95% of the battle. If somebody is on the fence of getting one because they are worried about how to mount it, they should just buy one and put it in the trunk.

Having restricted access to a fire extinguisher in an emergency doesn't sound good to me.
At least I have it. Probably best used in a ton of other situations than me stuck in the seat and burning. I have a stock roll cage too so I may have other issues too. I'll prepare for these things as money, time & need come up.
