I've posted several times in other threads about the garage door opener I installed but have never created a thread all its own.

I bought something like this on eBay:

I installed it near my steering wheel and the color matched perfectly. I had to cut an oval hole in the trim piece but it turned out like this.

I used a fuse tap on the radio circuit so it can only be used with the key.

I have two garage doors, one was installed when house was built in 2003, the other was replaced in about 2016. Apparently garage door security evolved during that time and the remote I installed did not initially work with my newer garage door opener. I needed this to make it work.

I'm going to try this soon in the same location. I got one that is tan colored, but it's still quite a bit lighter than my Khaki interior, so I'm going to spray the cover piece with some Khaki SEM color coat that I have left over from painting my half doors.

Does the cover panel snap back into the transmitter securely through the jeep interior panel?

I mounted mine in the plastic trim piece above the windshield. IIRC; it snapped back together, but I had to modify the buttons because the plastic was thicker.

That's a good idea. Might get a little more range too.

I may have to reevaluate where I want to install it.

that higher location is a good idea but I now have my phone and gps mounts there. The dash plastic is a little thick so the pieces did not snap back together but I have them stuck there with hot glue. came off once and I just had to add more glue to get it to stay

I decided to go ahead and put it down near the steering wheel. Started with sanding down some of the ridges of plastic that are in the way on the back of the panel and drilling holes for the buttons.

So far as a homelink goes, I'd either wire it so it only works with your ignition switch on or lock it inside something stronger than the plastic OE console or glove box. I keep mine locked up in my Tuffy center console. Giving someone the means to get into your house by only needing to get inside your Jeep is not something I'd be willing to do.

When put back together on each side of the plastic trim the buttons were not long enough to reach the circuit board so I stuck air soft BB's in there so the rubber button would reach the circuit board.

I think I cut the plastic pushers off another one (both from a Pick-n-pull) and glued them on to the one I was using.

That's a great idea. I put mine on the console right in front of the parking brake levers. I had the same issue with the thickness of the console material, and even after grinding it thinner I have to mash on the buttons to get it to engage. I may try the airsoft BB idea.

Mine will be wired to switched power also.

Good idea. I don't have any of those, but I'm sure I can find something around the shop.

Why do you have two park brake levers?

Why do you have two park brake levers?
Possibilities are rear-steer (not full-rear steer via a steering box) and/or traction control for like an LSD or open axle.
Oh, wow. I've never seen that.

It's what I call my red-neck cutting brake. When doing a front dig with the rear axle disengaged and unlocked (I guess it is an open axle at that point, Jerry :)), and the brake on one wheel engaged, it will pivot around that wheel.

Not quit a hydro cutting brake, but it was a fun little project to do.

I joined two stock levers...

...and split the cable at the equalizer.

I got the levers close enough together that you can still easily engage both simultaneously like a regular parking brake.

Smcnich;

"Another option is to install a gentex mirror with home link built in."

Is the entire Homelink opener contained inside the mirror housing, or is it just buttons in the mirror and the actual opener located in the dash or in some remote location?
When getting a Gentex Mirror at the wrecking yard, just grab the mirror or is there more to it?

Everything is contained in the mirror. There’s several different versions of the gentex mirrors, but you’ll want the mirror and pigtail harness with plug. If it’s a model with temp sensor, you can get that too. I think there’s a write up or two on here. There’s some good info on some of the Tacoma forums too. You also might need to change the mounting tab on your windshield, but that’s easy. You can get a 3-pack of three different styles at o-Reilly for like $5. Heat the old one for a minute or so with a butane lighter and it will fall right off. Don’t bother with the permatex stuff when putting the new tab on. That stuff is crap. Lightly sand both surfaces and use some JB clear weld.

sorry for the crappy pic, but it’s the only one I have.
