Moving to 40s: Need advice on wheels and tires

For tires, I went with Pro Comp MT2s. Truthfully, I went this route because they are less money than others out there. Also, 4WP sometimes has deals where you buy 3 get one free. The side walls aren't that tough but they grip really well. I cut a sidewall on one of them with only about 500 miles on it. After the replacement cost, it's still cheaper for me to have gone with the MT2s over something else but the amount I spent is getting closer to what a better sidewall tire would have been.
Having worked for ProComp's parent company years ago and having specified ProComp tires for many builds while I worked for them, the two biggest complaints I consistently heard and noticed about their tires is fast tread wear and weak/thin sidewalls.

I got my boss really mad at me by refusing to run ProComp tires that would have replaced my Goodyear MT/Rs, even though they would have been installed for free. He never understood when I explained the ProComps wouldn't stand up to the SoCal trails I enjoyed doing.

I have been informed(which may have been wrong, but) a super 88 is about the same strength as a built TJ 44 and for a rear axle, should not be trusted on anything bigger than 35s

you're not wrong, neither is your informant.

Overall strength usually comes from three areas when complete axles are concerned; ring gear diameter, axle shaft diameter, and axle tube diameter.

The only thing I don't like is that they won't sell it unless it's a complete axle. As I said I'd like to have the housing
I think we’ve talked about this before.

Ive got a quote for an empty Dyantrac ProRock 60 housing with inner knuckles welded on in my email. Not sure why you cant get an empty housing quote...

Love the pics. Thanks for sharing. I love the white TJ.
This is one of many trails in JV we built those rigs for. I am pretty sure they qualify me to understand diff clearance.

I'll have to see if I can break your track record one day
Once upon a time, the guy behind me broke something and we had a spare in camp. It was before the plaque. I hopped in Garry's rig as a passenger/spotter on my side, and we ran the rest of the trail, ran back to camp, dug the spare out, ran back up the beginning of Sledge and pulled in behind the broken rig. The total time we were gone was 45 minutes and they didn't even have the rig all the way apart yet.

Were they drinking on the job I take it?
