Any thoughts on this bumper?

I had one, and liked how it looked. But I was never going to trust it with my winch, the welds were just not very substantial.
So I switched back to the Warn Rock Crawler that was on my rig when I bought it, and just gave it an updated look with a bedliner paint job.

I try not to buy Bidenese made parts if possible. There are better made US made options for around the same price. I have LoD.

I had that bumper on my TJ when I bought it 5 years ago, loved it. Grew indifferent about it. Grew to hate it. Swapped it out for a stubby. Loved it. Currently indifferent about it. Sensing I’m heading towards hating it I bought a stock bumper. When will I swap it in? I suspect the same day indifference intersects with hate. This is the never ending cycle of TJ ownership, it creeps & progresses like a disease, but a really fun one if that’s a thing. So my message is simple, buy that battleship of a bumper if that’s what you want then enjoy it as long as you enjoy it, just keep your stock piece.

Will it rust as fast as the TJ frame? Maybe as fast as the TJ fenders? Perhaps it'll rust as fast as the TJ windshield frame? You know, all those well known spots that are prone to rusting on a TJ that was made in America. Then again sometimes parts last longer the better they're taken care of. I mean, I don't have any rust on my TJ and that includes the front and rear bumpers that just so happen to be Chinese made.

Stock can look good too with the right end caps IMO.
This is what I had before I bought the Motobilts.
These rubber end caps run around $50 each/$100 a set, but are no longer available and look great on stock bumpers.
If you want them and pay shipping I'll let you have them for $100 in like new condition.
I even have the bumper front pads too I'll throw in free! ($100 a pair normally).
Just give me a shout if interested.

If you like the way it looks and it fits your budget, go for it.

Though I would pass if you're going to do a lot of wheeling and winching. I picture having a real winch situation and your winch may become a projectile. If it's mostly for looks, should be fine.

I'd also look through your local Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Keep an eye on those, people sell name brand bumpers all the time. I almost got an aluminum Savvy rear for $100, but wasn't quick enough.

Personally not a big fan of that style, but i'm in the same boat looking for something else. I think i nice option if you like minimalist like me would be chopping the stock bumper a bit and adding a small to medium sized brush guard to the top of it. I think that's the route i'm going to go eventually.

That bumper will work just fine and you'll find them on many jeeps.

Its ok to not buy Savvy this and Currie that. Not everyone chooses to spend $50,000 on upgrades for a 20 yr old jeep.

Get the bumper, save some cash and have just as much fun enjoying your jeep.

If you like it get it. It's not that expensive and people seem to change bumpers as often as their underwear around here. I'd look for a used one, clean it up and paint it. You'll likely bend your jeep and break stuff before it gives.

The OEM bumper isn't that great either or you wouldn't need to chop it up, weld stuff on, and repaint it to make it right. My rear OEM bumper didn't come with a tow hitch and I didn't see a reason to spend a ton of money on a chunk of metal with a square tube attached. The cheaper chunk hasn't come loose, bent, broke, or rusted (except for the tow hitch where every single hitch on the planet rusts). It pulls a 2000 lb trailer without issue and that's 1/2 the weight of the Jeep and rather a jarring application.

If I manage to break the bumper I'll have likely done other impact damage to the Jeep. That's what people do here, break things, scratch the crap out of the underside of their Jeeps and replace stuff when it needs it. Some of the people are worried about this cheap things durability probably put thinner aluminum body armor on their Jeeps and stand buy it's ability to take punishment. So yeah, really not material science types. If you scratch steel paint it or it will rust. Just like the entire undercarriage after you drag it over rocks and stuff.

I spent my money on a better lift. There's more bang for the buck there. This thread is like arguing over whether steel tube half doors, fabric half doors, or OEM half doors make your Jeep wheel better.

Not at all. Actually I don't even find that bumper to be aesthetically pleasing but I've seen that model on many jeeps so I know others like them.

I do more reading than posting on this site and just as so many other sites for different hobbies, over time you always see more and more elitism when it comes to name brands in any certain industry. It just gets tiresome.

I know people like certain things and that's fine, but there are people who don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a name brand part but instead of others accepting it, they usually shame them for it which pushes people away from a hobby.

If someone wants a $150 bumper from Amazon, thats ok, its their jeep and I'm sure they would be happy with it. But what really gets me is the virtue signaling about a part being Chinese and knowing that person is riddled with Chinese appliances and electronics but acts like its just un-American to purchase a Chinese bumper. You know, people who use words like "chinesium" or "chinamart" as if everything they own is 100% American made.

I mean, I hate to break it to all you true patriots but there are Chinese parts on your jeeps and they were put on there from the factory. Shocking I know right?

Everyone is free to pay as little or as much as they want. I don't know if I'd call it "elitism", but when it comes to recovery, you really are putting your life in the hands of your equipment. If it's just for looks then it doesn't matter as much. When my Jeep is about fall of the side of a cliff, I want to know my bumper isn't going to be the weak point.

You could be dealing with a safety issue when using it as a daily driver. I've seen Smitty 'rails' crumple like aluminum cans when getting minor rock contact. Do you really trust that bumper in a collision on the freeway? Can you call the company and see if it's been tested at 60 MPH? I wouldn't be surprised if it shatters into pieces if there's a real collision.

Mentioning Chinese electronics: again, I"m not relying on my TV to protect my life. If it dies, I can throw it out and buy a new one. Besides, we're definitely comparing apples to oranges. Are there ANY TV's (or electronics) made in the US anymore?

I get what you're saying about recovery but you have to keep in mind that not everyone who buys a jeep uses it offroad in the same manner as others. For instance, I'll never need a wench because I don't use my jeep they way many here do. Its just a daily driver for me. Many people aren't hard-core off roaders so a cheaper bumper will be fine.

As far as collision goes, the Chinese bumper i bought weighs in at a hair over 100 lbs and gar sturdier than the factory. The factory sheet metal bumper to me is what I would consider aluminum foil. I've seen semi trucks wadded up into unrecognizable chunks of metal so you never know what will happen in a collision.

My point is, different people will have different uses for their jeeps and there's nothing wrong with that.

My two biggests reasons for not liking that bumper is that it is the most popular bumper for a Wrangler and it looks dumb on a TJ.
