Does anyone know which of the 4 O2 sensors this code is meant for? My check engine light is on and this is the code. Can anyone help?
Thank you
Thank you
P0420 Cat 1 = bad cat?It’s not an 02 sensor code. It’s a catalyst code.
48kHow many miles are on your Jeep? It sounds like your cats could be failing.
no loss of power, no smell at all and I don’t think I have any leaksDoes the Jeep engine feel as though it has lost power ?
Do you smell rotten eggs ?
Exhaust system or header have leaks ?
Disconnect your battery and clear the code it might not come back if its running ok.48k

Thank you. I will try that but I want to make sure everything is running ok as well.Disconnect your battery and clear the code it might not come back if its running ok.
I got both up and down stream o2 codes 6 months ago just after buying it and they have not come back.
Are you saying the Cat is bad? It’s not an 02 sensor code. It’s a catalyst code.
It could be a bad catalytic converter. The way it works is that you have an O2 sensor in front of the cat and an O2 sensor behind the cat. The computer compares signals between the two to make sure the cat is cleaning up the exhaust like it should. If it doesn't see enough of a difference between the two sensors it raises that P0420 code. Are you saying the Cat is bad?
I think the worst thing that can happen if you clear the code is it comes straight back.Thank you. I will try that but I want to make sure everything is running ok as well.
Thank you for the info. So what are my options? I know where the sensors are I just don't know which one to replace. There are 4 sensors correct? It could be a bad catalytic converter. The Post 02 is only there to tell you your cats not functioning properly. Cheap enough from Rockauto but make sure they are NTKThank you for the info. So what are my options? I know where the sensors are I just don't know which one to replace. There are 4 sensors correct?
But the code is not post 2 it’s post 1 if I’m not mistakenThe Post 02 is only there to tell you your cats not functioning properly. Cheap enough from Rockauto but make sure they are NTK
I dont know I never change mine they are still sitting in the box they were shipped in 6 months ago. see pint 3 in the link below Tools Needed to DiagnoseBut the code is not post 2 it’s post 1 if I’m not mistaken
