What happens if a OHV runs into your Jeep on a trail?

I'd say 1/2 of them encountered out in AZ were asshats. I'm stopped at a pullout with my window down, hand out trying to signal how many are behind me and they just goose it, kick up a dust cloud, and speed by. Quads are worse but it seems SXS are trying hard to take the lead.

This made me laugh.... because I was with you on that trail and remember your comments on the cb🤣

The forest roads are so dusty here in AZ I always slow way down for everyone, especially hikers and mountain bikers. No one needs a face full of dirt and dust. The slower cars and Jeeps will usually let me pass in my SxS but I do it slowly and wait until I'm far enough ahead to speed up again. One good thing about the RZR is you can go a lot faster over the long stretches of miles of washboarded gravel forest roads because it's just a much smoother ride at higher speeds. You just have to slow down when it's appropriate to... around other people, blind curves, and hill tops.

You know its going to be interesting when they have the new SXS on the u-haul trailer with the straps flapping in the wind as they race you on the highway to get to the trailhead!
Then you amble by them as they're figuring out how to back into the parking area and unload. (but you know in your mind 20 minutes later they're going to be roaring up behind you)

You're in the good 1/2 along with many others that have learned some etiquette along the way.
Unfortunately that AZ soil that the bad 1/2 kicks up leaves a bad taste in your mouth!

Part of the problem here is they rent a lot of SxS's so tourists are using them that have little to no experience. They really have no awareness of what they are doing wrong. They're just out having a great time and being a typical tourist, but it's giving a bad name to the responsible riders. There's also a lot of camping in the national forest here and they bring their SxS's... I'm sure they're contributing to the problem also.

It would be interesting to relay this to a reputable insurance policy rep. They could likely tell you the possible outcomes and paths to take.
Anyone an auto insurance broker on here? Hahaha. I may throw this up on reddit as I am genuinely curious. Better to know than to find out after the fact I suppose.
I'm like a turtle in my side by side 😂 .... I've even had Jeepers compliment me on my trail etiquette. I'm really out there to enjoy nature, not see how fast I can go. I enjoy both my Jeeps and my RZR and do my best to be respectful of the environment and others using the trails. All of my vehicles have full coverage. I have seen the groups of SxS buzzing around too fast and being rude on the trails and I'm not one of them. As far as hitting a Jeep in one, that would hurt! 😫
The world needs more of you. And the yellow jackets analogy, spot on accurate.

I wish it were that easy to say for Colorado. The front range really doesn't have many rental outlets. What we do have is a lot of people who's parents need a whippin for raising them the way they did. Can't tell if it's transplants with deep pockets or what.

As you get older you realize that things hurt more too 😂
I used to be an avid mountain biker but a bad concussion a couple years ago has slowed me down a bit... I don't want a repeat concussion! It wasn't on my bike so I don't even get to tell a cool story. I lived in Ohio my entire life and never cracked my head open slipping on ice. I retired to AZ a few years ago and bam! I stepped on ice and my feet went flying out from under me.

Too true! , way too many selfish boneheads that are not real offroad folks.
Of course since the whole world is spiraling around the drain, maybe this is what we have to look forward to.

In my recent experience with an accident on the freeway, both sides are 100% convinced it's the other guys fault and your insurance pays for yours.

I was in the number 3 lane on the way to work. Someone in #4 was trying to merge to #3 and hit the side of my DD just behind the passenger front door. Pulled over, he apologized. Of course, he made up some story about how I was swerving in and out of lanes. Long story short, my insurance had to pay for mine. His for his.

Unless you have an impartial witness that it's not your fault, no camera footage, etc. You're going to be out of luck.

Other people add uh ...... more spice to life.

Well.... that's kind of a cool story in itself. :)

alot of the trails I have access to here in michigan are primarily soft sand and loose wet/muck dirt. corners are typically very carved out banks you slide down into if you try to driven the right side of the trail depending on the direction of the trail, usually its the weekend assholes racing in the high powered full sized OHV equipment through the twisty trails.

we have dirt bike/quad trails, OHV trails and Full size trails. all based on the width of the vehicle for the trail your allowed to drive on. of course the wider your vehicle is the less trails you can legally drive here. its a bit of a pain in the ass. the jeep is only legally allowed on orv routes and there are very few in the state. its not uncommon to get to the end of the "route" and the trail states to continue you must be under a certain width. the smaller orv machines can drive on everything whereas the jeep is just limited to the routes only. its a bit of a slap in the face imo.

I would assume theres fine print in the insurance coverage on your vehicle indicating something along the lines that they dont cover damages incurred from off road usage.

Maybe I’m alone here, but it’s hard for me to grasp and explain to myself why anyone would make tight trails two way trails...

I’ve seen single track dirtbike trails that allow traffic flow both directions with very twist twisty sections..and then people are shocked to learn that riders collide into each other....
