Looking on get a lunch box locker for a Dana 30 and like to heard some opinions from who uses this locker type.
Thanks!I run the Aussie in front. Works great, mild click when turning, can feel nothing at the steering wheel in 2 wd. I chose it because there was a bunch of positive experiences from actual users online. I had a minor issue with my install and their customer service was extremely helpful and very prompt returning my call, on a Saturday no less.
Spartan, Aussie, Lockright, Lokka, etc....all are lunchbox lockers that do pretty much the same thing. Get whichever and run it.
I've run Aussies and Lockrights with no issues if it matters.
Exactly what I will do, get whichever and run it.
It call my attention the Spartan did not required the use of the trust washers and like to hear if anyone who use it has any input on it.
Thanks for your feed back on Aussie and Lockright.
Ha I wheel on rocks almost all of the time and I slide down sideways off rocks on a regular basis so I dunno how you can wheel on rocks without sliding too lol.ON this topic, if I get one of these here lockers you boys are talking about for the front Dana 30, and I make tight turns where I wheel, is it going to stress the axle and break something?
I wheel on rocks so no sliding
Which for future people referencing this thread, that is a notoriously bad combination.I ran an Aussie in the rear D-35...
Thanks for the feedback. I might not be seeing as big a rocks as you! At least not getting on them! We have limestone and granite in our area, but not together. The trails I get concerned about are the granite. You get incredible traction on it. Only time you slide or slip seems to be when there are tiny pieces of broken granite sitting on solid granite. Then it feels like your riding on ball bearings! I think I was mostly concerned about tight turns and putting stress on the axle since a lunch box locker isn't selectable. I'd just have to come out of 4WD, which I wouldn't want to be doing all the time. Sounds like it would be no problem though. I'll continue to think about the power trax no slip, at $409 it's considerably more than an Aussie or Spartan...Ha I wheel on rocks almost all of the time and I slide down sideways off rocks on a regular basis so I dunno how you can wheel on rocks without sliding too lol.
Front lunchbox lockers are a non-issue, they (generally speaking) don't break while wheeling. One reason is the front axle seldom sees more than about 50% of what the rear axle can see on a regular basis.
The only (minor) drawback with a front-mounted automatic locker is it very slightly increases your turning radius, though barely enough to notice. I wheeled with a front No-Slip lunchbox locker for years on tight twisty trails and occasionally I'd need to make a 2-point turn but it was a complete non-issue that was overshadowed by its benefits on the trail.
When installed in the front axle, the No-Slip's only advantage is it doesn't click/ratchet when you're doing slow-speed turns in 2wd like if you're in a parking lot. I'd place the Spartan in 3rd place among those three lunchbox locker choices.I'll continue to think about the power trax no slip, at $409 it's considerably more than an Aussie or Spartan...
