Back frame and bumper clean up questions

While I understand you are trying to clean it, have you thought about painting it with POR 15? I did my frame a year ago and it's held up pretty well.
Maybe not the answer you were looking for but just a suggestion.

Needless to say I have cleaning up to do . Two questions, my jeeps back area where the bumper mounts on is a bit bent and with us having to drill a second set of bolt holes for the hitch bumper we want to straighten it out. Dave tried with a come along attached to a tree but just pulled my jeep. He's thinking to attach the other end of my jeep to another tree and try again. Thoughts? Better suggestions? Secondly, I am wire wheeling and sanding the rust off the bumper but can't get into the small areas with the tools I have. Suggestions on removal or can I just spray with fluid film?? Thanks

My brother in law did my cleanup job and said he used a wire brush and some rustoleum gloss black spray paint. My jeep is a secondary vehicle for me so won't get any harsh conditions really. He said the worst part was the part you are referring too where the bumper attaches. He just had a smaller wire brush that he was able to get into the grooves. I was pretty impressed with how it turned out.
Second question first...
Get a small tooth brush sized wire brush and some navel jelly. That'll get enough of the loose rust off to get the primer / rust converter to work well. Rinse the naval jelly off with HOT water and shoot the first coat of primer as soon as it's good and dry.
Second question...
Just how bent is it? I wouldn't tie the TJ to a tree and go at it with a come-a-long. You can pull stuff out of alignment that way and end up with a rig that dog walks down the road. Ask me how I know.

All about Por15 , but want to be sure I'm prepping the surface correctly prior to putting it on. Do I paint over Por15? Is it paint ?
Thanks for the feedback! I attached two pics of it to see how bent. Not bad but enough to make it harder to get the second set of bumper screws in.
POR-15 comes with some pretty detailed instructions, but basically you knock off the big flakes, use their degreaser, then use their metal prep, clean it, then brush it on just like paint.
However, the bumper is not an area where you want to use POR-15 unless you are going to topcoat it with something else. The product breaks down when exposed to UV light.
You are better off with a wire wheel attachment for your drill or grinder and some rust converter out of a spray can.
Just like Serbonze said they sell products to prep the area before you put on the POR 15:
1. Degreaser
2. Metal Prep
3. POR 15
4. Top Coat paint( protect from UV rays)
I think if you paint over the POR 15 you should be fine but the other solution would prob work to and would be cheaper.
