Getting intermittent check engine light with p0138 code. I bought this 2004 TJ last Sept then stored it for winter. It runs well but the CEL has been on again off again since I bought it. About 85000 miles. Fuel mileage seems poor (although with my lack of Jeep experience I don’t know what normal is). The service history indicates the bank 1 sensor 2 was replaced at about 45000 miles. The Jeep struggles to maintain 55 mph when I’m towing my light trailer so I’m interpreting this as low top end power. I prefer to do my own general maintenance but I have simple tools and I don’t want to just throw parts at it. Looking for ideas to determine nature of intermittent light. TY

Sounds like your O2 sensor is just bad, when they go bad they dont always throw a code but when they do they just send incorrect information to the PCM and it can cause a loss of power by running too lean or rich.
Depending on if you got the 4.0L or not here is where you can get the right O2 Sensor , I would recommend changing all 4 but you might be able to get away with just doing the upstream as those are the ones that will affect the performance of the engine.

X2. You could have an intermittent open on feed or signal, you could also have an intermittent short to voltage. You "could" have a faulty PCM. But... it's probably your O2 sensor giving it up. I'd change all 4 when you do it. Follow that link winks posted.
