4.5" backspacing with 33x12.5 tires

Hello guys!

I recently bought the DPG TJ Ultimate lift kit. Cant wait for it to come in and im looking at wheels.
I really like the Mamba MR1X wheels 15x8 for the stock rubicon look. But the backspacing is 4.5. I would prefer to avoid wheel spacers if possible. Is it crazy to run this setup without spacers?

I'm aware of similar styled wheels that have 3.75 bs like the quadratec rubicon extreme but im not a big fan of them.

My jeep goals are weekend wheeling. I live in Los Angeles and i see equal amounts of beaching and wheeling on the weekends. This is not my daily driver either.

Any suggestions is apreciated

They will rub your control arms/ sway bar and get into your inner fenders during full flex.

I had to add a washer to the steering stops when I ran that setup, but it didn't rub anywhere after doing that.

That’s good to hear! What kind of lift do you have? I’m looking at 3.75” of lift

When I first put the 33's on with the 4.5" BS wheels the Jeep had 2.5" of lift. I can't remember if I had them on when I went to 3.5" (plus 1.25" BL) of lift or not. I do recall the rear tires being pretty close to the upper spring perch, but they didn't touch it.

The closest match ive found is the quadratec Rubicons. The spoke are a little narrow than i'd like them to be. I really like the stock look. Not a big fan of much else that ive seen.

What are the cons of running a wheel spacer. Im looking at another 200$ bucks it seems

Im assuming ill need something to prevent rub at full wheel turn. I think i can just add some spacers for that though.

I run the MR1X on my LJR and also previously on my TJR. I've never ran into an issue with either jeep and rubbing.

Holy Cow this looks amazing! I love a subtle but strong setup! Im all about being understated you could say.

So no rub at wheel lock and full flex? How often do you wheel?

Do you have any pics when it was on your TJ? This is pushing me more to buy!

There might be a smidge of rubbing at full lock but not enough that I notice it. Only know because I see some rub marks on my control arms and it's nothing a couple washers couldn't fix. Full Flex I couldn't tell you, most of my off-roading is cruising old logging roads in the mountains. I don't get into crazy shit. Here are a couple of my old TJR

I'm definitely looking to do some rock crawling and going full flex. If i have to, i might just get the quadratec rubicon wheels. They dont look so bad.

Both of my setups are 33x12.50

When I was searching, I was looking for as close to factory look but in 15" and no less than 4" backspacing. I don't like the look of a bunch tire sticking out past the flare.

I completely agree about poke.

I think i just need some more opinions on 4.5" backspacing and full flex.
If i had to pick between looks and function ill go function.

4.5" is a bit too much for 12.5" tires. As above the tires will rub on the frame and control arms with that much backspacing. 4" is ideal, 3.75" works fine.

Sounds like the Mambas are out of question.

I think I’ll 4”. Poke should be minimal for 12.5
