Yeah he hasn't emailed me back so he might already have someone lined up. As for rust if the jeep has been in NC it's entire life then it shouldn't be too much of an issue
Should I buy a standard LJ or LJ Rubicon?

I’ve been looking for several months with preference on a rubicon.
An opportunity arose on a clean 2004 LJ. 103k for a song so I jumped in.
with the savings over a rubicon I can do suspension and ARB’s on both ends.
don’t get the transfer case or Dana 44/lockers on both ends but oh well. Can always build one better.

Sell the hardtop?
I would not even consider any Jeep with a soft top.
I can Blast the cold air in the summer, Sweat it out with the heater in the winter.
Plus I don't have to get all dusty off-road and it is nice and quite going down the road.

Rust is this area of NC is minimal, usually just a little surface when it does exist.

Not a fan of this one. Mods I wouldn't pick and it looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet. Best to take your time and find one either well built, or close to stock.
I sold the hardtop that came with my Sahara. My Jeep is a second vehicle that only sees summer time use. If it was used year-round I could see the need for the hard top though. It shouldn't be a reason to not consider a Jeep though. Condition should be top priority.

If that's true, could be a good deal. New OEM motor? Crate motor from another vendor? Rebuilt motor? Either way, I'd have it checked out by a impartial mechanic, make sure it was done right. Don't think I'd want a rebuilt motor either.

Maybe he’s saying 8k on the motor itself. I’m assuming it’s a rebuild or a motor from a company.
I guess it would depend who the rebuild was done by. I had my rebuild done about 20k ago by a often recommended shop and haven’t had one issue yet. I guess time will tell though...
I've just heard a few rebuild stories that ended up bad. Sounds more like he dropped in a new motor though.
