Help buying

Forgive me if this is wrong area for post but I'm still groggy from surgery. I have the chance today to buy a 2002 sport black, 4.0, automatic, new exhaust, new radiator, 1 inch throttle lift, new 33's, interior great, 4 inch skyjacker suspension lift lots of extra.no frame rust and no oil leaks. Parks in his garage there are no oil stains. 208,000 miles. Runs great 4x4 works great, I can get it for $8500. Sound like a good price? I'm in north Georgia.

From the pics it looks like a nice Jeep. The 208,000 on a 4.0 isn't a big deal. The 4" skyjacker lift is very low end and I wouldn't add much value to the Jeep for it. $8,500 isn't out of the ballpark for it. Maybe start things off by offering $7,500.

Are you going to keep those rims? The tube bumpers?

@over 200k in mileage, he is asking a premium price, IMHO and it should be set up how you like it.

Walk away. I would not pay 8k for any vehicle with over 200k. That is insane.

My 99 TJ has 108k and the most I would sell it for is 5k.

Agree with @Ahoragi, the 4.0 may be bullet proof but, at 208k who knows where it will go from there. That and you are paying a premium for a Sport with a low end lift and JK take off wheels. Keep looking, you can do better.

First and foremost, check the frame thoroughly. Just because they say "no frame rust", doesn't mean they're telling the truth.

208k miles is high, but it's not unusual for these things to go half a million miles without any internal engine work (there's a guy who has one with 600k miles). At that mileage however, you can be 100% certain you'll need to replace the cooling system (unless it's been done before), and you'll probably need to start thinking about things such as O2 sensors, and preparing for other random sensors and electronics to go bad down the road.

No one can predict when those things will go bad, but it's something I'd keep in mind. If it is indeed rust free, I'd start at $7500 and see if he'll take that. I would plan on keeping at least a few grand in savings just incase you do run into any issues.

These engines will run forever, but only if they are maintained!

I have personally inspected and indeed is rust free. And the cooling system has been replaced along with exhaust. Former mechanic some some work like sensors and stuff don't bother me too much.

You all are giving me great advise! Wife wants to look at it tomorrow and that will probably be the deciding factor lol

I go there a good bit. Burgundy is right hand drive and orange is wore out bad. That's what I run into. Everything priced like it should be around here ends up having major issues when I get there. Hell, 2 had rusted frames! Lol

$2500 is only about 10 liquor stores/ gas stations to rob. Hell, you could that on a Friday night.
