Door hinge pin replacement

When I pulled my daughters doors the other day I noticed that one pin on each door has the threads broken off.
Can I tap those hinge pins out with a hammer?
I'm reading on the net and many people say the entire hinge needs to be replaced.
I wanted to get to them today but I just ran out of time

There is a fluted stem section on the pin just below the top and they can be driven out from the bottom easily. A couple shots of lubricant can help.

When I bought my TJ 3 yrs ago it had zero threaded hinge pins. It didn't bother me that the threaded tips were missing. Lately, I've been thinking about replacing the top pin on each side so I can add a couple hinge pin guides.

I bought a replacement pin to replace one with broken threads. Couldn’t free up the old pin using a BFH and a pin. So I quit. I’ll try again at some point.

Don't worry about the threads having been snapped off. Not many of us have had the hinge pin nuts on our Jeeps in years. Not in 25 years for me.

There are replaceable bushings in the hinges, the originals were metal and I cleared them by caving them in and driving them out. I used the aftermarket Delrin bushings.

That is what they do. I've seen sets of 4 to do both doors but they were all the same length which I don't think would help too much. I've also seen a set of two for only one door that have a longer guide for the upper hinge and a shorter one for the lower hinge but I'm not going to bother replacing the lower pins.

I just found these Hinge Pin Guides, a set of two the same length to be used on both upper hinges. I'm pretty sure once the upper is started, lining up the lower shouldn't be an issue.

Agree with this. Unless you're worried about your doors getting stolen, you really don't need the threads or the bolt.

Curious on long term. Just doing the research to setup half doors for easy R/R with OEM hinges.

Installed the bushings in 2013 and still good, without any issues.
