Hello,

First time post and first time Jeep owner. I bought a 97 TJ 4.0L from a dealer yesterday. Going through it in depth today and replacing steering shaft and steering gear box to solve some play issues but it needs tires. I’d like to set it up for 33” tires as it will be just a spare/toy vehicle with some potential off-roading later. It currently has 31 x 10.50 r15s. It has a lift kit on it that’s fairly recent but I am having trouble identifying what size and if it’s good enough for 33s or if I’d need to supplement it with a body kit. It does look like it has quite a bit of space on the wheel wells with the 31s on it now. The only numbers I’ve been able to match up are on the rear shocks which match to a Rough Country 2.5” lift but the rest of the components of the lift don’t match any of the pictures for that lift.

Any help is appreciated.

Attaching photos for reference.

Measure the springs bucket to bucket - 8” on back and 12” on front is stock, any more is how much lift you have.

Keep an eye on that frame.

Your avatar appears you have a small human growing from your collar bone- be careful putting on a seat belt.

Thanks! From my measurements if I did this correctly it looks like 15.25-15.5 or 3.25-3.5” lift? Rear looks to be about 11-11.5 as well which checks out.

Planning to sandblast as much of the frame as I can reach without pulling the body and then hit it with a coat of chassis saver. So far the worst rust part is a couple of the body mounts are rusted out on the driver’s side.

Yes that is how to do it.

I hope you got a really smoking deal on this because that might be one of the worst frames I’ve seen here. I’m not sure a dealer should have been selling it in that condition. I would worry about that before even thinking about 33s.
