PSC hydro assist install

This is just some pics and details of my install of a PSC assist kit. This is not necessarily the correct or only way as mistakes have already been made and addressed. I bought a PSC stock replacement pump first without realizing it could not handle the extra volume of the ram. Fast forward two years and I have the proper pump, reservoir and anti splash valve for the project. I’ll get the things mentioned installed first before tackling the ram. The steering box fittings have been capped for a year or so.

Of course my TJ is different than normal TJ’s and required a custom res bracket and location. It will work fine just slow.

This was the decided location. Only re route will be the brake booster hose. Easy enough.

with CNC, you get what you put into it. Careful measuring (2,3 times) pays off the first route. Very little grinding was needed




After fit and weld up, a little black paint. I was out of flat so semi had to do

I know this has a rollover valve, so how far from vertical is acceptable?

Is this ok, on the tube fender inner part, maybe 6 degrees off vertical

Got the main components installed! Last detail to seal the system is connecting the return/low pressure line.

Here is the pump that I pulled off. It’s got about 300 miles of Offroad and crawling.

Anyone local is welcome to it. I don’t want to ship it. It seems delicate.

Most of the reservoir and pump install is done. Just need a 90 degree vacuum elbow. Probably at my local O’reilly’s.

I found a perfect spot for the anti splash vent too

I’ll finish up the job today and give it a test run. I have a few projects in between the pump and ram install to get done. One is put some foam sound cups behind all my speakers to help with the tinny sound. Then install some real rock lights under the fenders for a canyon night run coming up.

Everything is buttoned up and tested. Full lock to lock with one finger standing outside the jeep. Much improved so far. No whining either, pretty quite but so was other pump.

It does get warm though. I had reasoned/hoped that with 35’s no cooler would be needed. I’m probably wrong.

Any ideas or input on the cooler? Easy enough to put a small cooler next to trans cooler.

Cooler is required on my relatively mild setup, I can't imagine you don't need one. I use a small tube and fin vertically off the pump up and back down. It fits to the driver side of my transmission cooler top to bottom. Very inexpensive.

Edit: Derale D13200, from the outlet straight up and back down to the same place the stock hose is routed.

I've been wondering about the placement of the anti splash vent. When I did mine, I made a bracket on the backside, bottom, of the reservoir.

Has nothing to do with tire size. The pump is much higher performance and moving a lot more fluid at higher pressures. At no point should that pump ever be run without a cooler.

Before I get in trouble you should use the large aluminum heat sink style cooler, it is the best option.

Mines been fucked since I bought it. I love pretending in the garage that I’m a crawler star. I go lock till it squeals.

Ps, I did not realize it was metric, assumed it was SAE. I’ll go easy on it from here.

I just looked up the derale d13200. I like the fin type looks like it might fit better too. My plan is to fish whatever cooler through the headlight bucket

I added this trans cooler on the v bar of the radiator. Will it still mount ok?
